New names dot Arkansas' postspring 2-deep roster
The Razorbacks wrapped up spring practice on April 26 with the Red-White Game in front of a school-record crowd of 40,200. That attendance figure is the seventh-best in the nation this year and the third-best in the Southeastern Conference.

Razorback research, long-term expectations
I was born in 1958, so in my formative years, the HOGS won with regularity. I expect Arkansas to win. Bruce James always told watchers of Sports Week that Arkansas should never lower their expectations. Rick Schaeffer always says we should not expect too much. After all, Alabama, Auburn and LSU expect to win. So what should Razorback fans expect? BusinessDictionary.com gives this definition of expectations: Presumed degree of probability of an occurrence; average probability of a chance occurrence.

D-Mac will extend first-round draft picks from state to 6 years in a row
It's a safe assumption that Darren McFadden gets drafted within the top six picks at this week's NFL Draft in New York. When McFadden's name is called, the former Pulaski Oak Grove star extends an impressive streak to six straight years that an Arkansas high school product has been selected in the first round of the draft.

Recruiting: Bentonville's Blackmon gets his first offer
Army became the first FBS team (formerly Division I) to offer a scholarship to Bentonville's Anthony Blackmon. Blackmon switched from linebacker to running back this fall and ran for more than 2,500 yards and 33 touchdowns, falling just short of the big-school single season rushing record (2,767 yards) held by DeArrius Howard of West Memphis. Blackmon didn't receive any recruiting interest before the season.

Bentonville RB Blackmon overcomes, thrives
"There's a guy named Anthony Blackmon who has the potential to surprise a lot of people. He played defense for us last year, and he moved to running back in the spring. Anthony is a great story. He has a 4.0 grade point. He is a wonderful young man, and he had one of the most phenomenal off-seasons I have seen. I think he has a chance to get a lot of attention by the time the season's over.

CONWAY - The University of Central Arkansas Bears, underdogs much of the season and the preseason eighth-place pick in the Southland Conference, run with the big dogs Saturday in Lake Charles, La. UCA (6-4, 5-1 Southland) goes for a share of the regular-season title against defending champion and perennial league power McNeese State (10-0, 6-0).

Candid Q&A w/Arkansas State coach Steve Roberts

ASU coach Steve Roberts, the dean of Sun Belt coaches, served as defensive coordinator at Texas High (Texarkana) before taking over at Southern Arkansas University. He has compiled a career record of 72-64-1.

Nate Olson's small college picks (10-16)
Arkansas Tech's upset of Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist's homecoming win over Southern Arkansas were my only blemishes last week. However, I finally predicted UCA's game correctly.

Nate Olson's picks: SAU, Henderson & UCA win Week 7
Central Arkansas kept me from a perfect week by winning 35-14 at No. 19 Sam Houston State. Before season's end I might pick a UCA game correctly. Last Week: 5 of 6 (83 percent). This season: 26 of 32 (81 percent).

Nate Olson's small college picks 9-25

After a fast start, I stumbled last week. I gambled on a Ouachita Baptist upset over Delta State and thought UAM's losing streak would stretch to 12, but the Boll Weevils surprised in a 48-32 win over Harding.
