No. 6 Hope at Class 4A No. 11 Ashdown
Both notched surprising victories last week (Hope 35-21 over Nashville, Ashdown 49-46 over Class 7A West Memphis). Ashdown gained 300 yards in 45 plays last week, but had more than 300 "hidden yards" on special teams, coach Matt Richardson says. The Panthers returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and a 61 yard kickoff return set up a TD. The Panthers also blocked a punt, recovered a muffed punt and recorded a crucial safety on a kickoff. "We've got to take care of the little things," Richardson says.

Ashdown junior LaMontrick Turner ran for almost 500 yards in five games last year before breaking his leg. Turner ripped West Memphis for 140 yards and two scores last week, while LaDarius McElroy (6-5, 220) caught five passes, including one for a TD. McElroy missed the final six games of last season after breaking his collarbone. Senior DeVaughn Sanders returns kickoffs and could develop into an explosive receiver on bubble screens "when we get him more involved on offense," Richardson says. Ashdown junior defensive end Starnes York racked up five sacks and three tackles for loss against West Memphis. Tulsa and Vanderbilt have expressed interest in York.

Hope's 14-point win over Nashville was its first in the series since 2005. Hope senior receiver Kenneth Thompson caught four passes for 144 yards and three TDs at Hope, while senior Javon Westmoreland ran for 130 yards and a score. Hope senior Nathan Stubber passed for 184 yards and four scores. Hope defensive ends Javon Potts (6-3, 230) and McTelvin Agim (6-3, 240) "are big, fast and athletic," Richardson says.

5A CENTRAL
Warren at PULASKI ACADEMY (14) (Thurs.): This is a nationally televised game (CSS). Pulaski Academy junior QB Will Hefley completed 31 of 43 passes for 463 yards and four TDs and junior Will Hastings caught 10 passes for 226 yards and three scores. The Bruins ran out the final four minutes with senior Jack Hansen and sophomore Trey Bruce. "We've got the ability to run the ball this year," Bruin coach Kevin Kelley says. Warren lost to Fayetteville 35-21 during Simmons First/Hootens.com Kickoff Week, but the Lumberjacks must get healthy after numerous starters were injured. Warren junior receiver Darveon Brown (six catches, 61 yards) and senior Von Eric Gonder (five catches, 40 yards and a TD) "are as athletic as any in the state," Kelley says.
North Pulaski at MAUMELLE (35): First-year Maumelle offensive coordinator Nic Evans (former coach at Mineral Springs) utilizes the Hornet's team speed. Maumelle forced six turnovers and recorded the first shutout in school history last week, applying the sportsmanship rule on Class 3A Fountain Lake 35-0.
BENTON (6) at Jacksonville: Jacksonville lost eight straight Back Yard Brawl's to neighbor Cabot, including 42-0 last week. Benton gave up almost 600 yards to Arkadelphia a week ago.
MILLS (12) at LR Hall: LR Hall QB Daniel Brown accounted for six TDs in last week's two-point loss at Sheridan. Mills rallied in the fourth-quarter last week, beating LR Parkview by 12 points. Mills QB Omar Avance, a three-year starter, completed three of eight passes for 103 yards and ran for 88 yards against LR Parkview.
HS Lakeside at SYLVAN HILLS (4): This game was declared a no contest last season after numerous lightening delays. Sylvan Hills ran for 477 yards (185 for junior QB Trajan Doss) in last week's 15-point win at Vilonia. HS Lakeside led LR Christian 35-25 in the fourth quarter last week, but surrendered two late TDs. Ram senior QB Garrett Carson passed for 203 yards and three TDs.
LR Christian at WHITE HALL (14): This game was ruled a no contest last season because of lightening. Little Rock Christian QB Houston Angel threw three TD passes and ran for another in last week's 39-35 win over HS Lakeside. White Hall junior QB Kirk Baugh passed for 176 yards and two TDs and junior running back Kendrick Edgerson ran for 130 yards in last week's 22-point win over Monticello during Simmons First/Hootens.com Kickoff Week.
Marianna at WEST HELENA (35): West Helena trailed Dollarway by eight points in the fourth quarter last week. Marianna didn't play last week and hasn't won since beating West Helena by nine points Week 2, 2011.
LR McClellan at CAC (17): CAC QB Jack Thomas, who missed last season with a shoulder injury, threw six TD passes (three TD passes to tight end Adam Weiner and receiver Stephan Flanigan) in last week's 48-40 win over defending Class 4A champion Stuttgart. LR McClellan trailed Class 6A Searcy 17-13 in the third quarter last week before losing 38-13.

5A EAST
OKOLONA, MISS. (6) at Blytheville: Undefeated Okolona makes the three hour drive to Blytheville. The Chickasaws had more than 300 yards in the opening three quarters but couldn't score against Osceola. Blytheville coach Vince McCrosky didn't attend practice or last week's game due to illness.
Beebe at LONOKE (3): Lonoke has beaten Beebe three of the past four seasons. Lonoke led Star City 14-13 in the fourth quarter before losing by two points last week. Beebe led Greenbrier 14-0 in the first quarter last week but lost by 23 points. Beebe gained 444 yards against Greenbrier.
Trumann at NETTLETON (21): Nettleton has won eight of the past nine in the series, but four of the games were decided by a total of nine points. Nettleton's offense didn't score against Newport last week, but the Raiders returned an interception for a TD.
BATESVILLE (7) at Searcy: Batesville has beaten Searcy eight of the past nine seasons, and they tied 23-23 in 2003. The Pioneers trailed Class 7A Springdale by 21-12 at halftime last week. Senior Joey Rodriguez ran nine times for 51 yards and two TDs against Springdale.
VILONIA (1) at Wynne: These teams have split the past two meetings, and last year's game was declared a no contest (lightening delay) after Wynne jumped up 14-0. Vilonia gave up almost 600 yards in last week's 15-point loss to Sylvan Hills.
Forrest City at MARION (4): Marion has beaten the Mustangs by a combined 144-56 the past three years. Marion's Dorion Thomas ran for 190 yards and three TDs in last week's one-point win over Wynne.
GREENE COUNTY TECH (6) at Rivercrest: Greene County Tech gave up 125 points to Week 1 opponent Jonesboro the past two years. Rivercrest gave up a late TD and two-point conversion in a one-point loss to Class 2A EPC a week ago.
Pocahontas (2) at PARAGOULD: Pocahontas trailed Bald Knob 13-0 in the first quarter last week, but didn't allow a point the rest of the game. Pocahontas coach Dave Williams didn't attend the game after being hospitalized last week. Paragould dresses 28 players.

5A SOUTH
HOPE (1) at Ashdown: Hootens.com Class 5A Game of the Week.
HS Lakeside at SYLVAN HILLS (4): This game was declared a no contest last season after numerous lightening delays. CAMDEN FAIRVIEW (35) at Hamburg: Hamburg coach Mike Cox assisted at Camden Fairview for more than two decades before coaching Bearden and Hamburg. A Class 7A coach calls Camden Fairview "the fastest team in the state." Cardinal QB Matthew Ollison threw for 353 yards and three TDs in last week's 13-point win over Class 6A El Dorado.
PINE BLUFF (17) at Watson Chapel: Pine Bluff's Austin McGehee kicked a 37-yard field goal with 2.3 seconds left last week to salvage a 31-31 tie with Class 7A FS Northside. Watson Chapel didn't play last week.
MONTICELLO (6) at Magnolia: Magnolia has lost 14 straight games, including 32-31 to Crossett last week. Monticello hung with Class 5A White Hall for a half last week before QB Imani Riley and running back Omar Simpson were injured.
Mena at HOT SPRINGS (4): Hot Springs has lost four of its past five season openers, including 19-13 at Pulaski Robinson a week ago. Hot Springs running back Kenny Kelly ran for two TDs against Pulaski Robinson.
NASHVILLE (17) at De Queen: Nashville was tied with Hope 21-21 at halftime last week, but lost by two TDs. The Scrappers won a state title the last time they lost to Hope. Junior QB LaMichael Pettway, who has a scholarship offer from Nebraska, passed for 154 yards and two TDs and ran 25 times for 172 yards.

5A WEST
GREENWOOD (10) at Alma: Greenwood has beaten Alma eight straight seasons, and the Bulldogs have won 39 consecutive games. Greenwood held Sallisaw, Okla., to 149 yards in last week's 46-point triumph. Alma forced three turnovers (didn't commit any) in last week's eight-point win at Van Buren. Alma senior linebacker Alex Burris and cornerback Keith Shultz, a converted linebacker, play physical, coach Doug Loughridge says.
MORRILTON (1) at Prairie Grove: These teams didn't play last season after enduring a two-hour lightening delay. Morrrilton led Class 6A Russellville 28-16 in the third quarter last week before losing 43-28. Devil Dog senior QB Toney Hawkins ran for three scores against Russellville. Prairie Grove forced six turnovers and allowed just one TD against Lavaca (Lavaca's other two scores came on an interception and kickoff return).
OZARK (2) at Clarksville: These are former conference foes. Ozark has beaten Clarksville three out of the past five seasons. Ozark trailed Booneville 21-14 late in the second quarter last week before losing by 35-points.
Berryville at HUNTSVILLE (3): Huntsville has beaten Berryville five straight times. Huntsville committed two turnovers in last week's eight-point loss at Farmington. Berryville's 44-point win over Marshall last week snapped a seven-game losing streak.
VILONIA (1) at Wynne: These teams have split the past two meetings, and last year's game was declared a no contest (lightening delay) after Wynne jumped up 14-0. Vilonia gave up more than 500 yards in last week's 15-point loss to Sylvan Hills.
BROKEN BOW, OKLA. (6) at Shiloh Christian: Shiloh Christian surrendered 14 points in the final three minutes of last week's 35-35 tie with Siloam Springs. Broken Bow beat the Saints by 11 points a year ago.
Texarkana at GREENBRIER (8): Greenbrier went undefeated in the regular season last year, winning its first outright conference championship, and coach Randy Tribble attributes the success to the Panthers 18-point win at Texarkana. The Panthers scored 61 points at Beebe last week.
HARRISON (7) at Mountain Home: Harrison has won four of the past seven in the series, but lost the past two by a combined 87-36. Harrison hung 64 points on Missouri power Ozark last week.
