GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 2 Bryant at No. 3 Bentonville
Bryant made its first semifinal appearance in school history last November and returns with only one loss this fall, a 25-14 heartbreaker to North LR in the conference title showdown last month. A week ago, Bryant rallied from a 20-0 halftime deficit to win in the final minute over Fayetteville 21-20. Both Bryant QBs (junior Ren Hefley and sophomore Jake Meadors) have passed for more than 1,000 yards this season. Hefley (1,596 yards passing) completes 60 percent of his passes with 17 TDs and 5 interceptions this fall. Junior Latavian Scott runs hard, totaling 1,341 yards (122 yards weekly). Bryant’s defense routinely gives up no more than one sustained drive per game and when the Hornet’s experienced offensive line plays well they’re hard to beat. Still, Bryant has yet to play a complete game. Bentonville beat Fayetteville 32-27 Week 4, starting its current 8-game win streak. The Tigers tamed Cabot 31-6 last week and will represent the 7A West conference alone in the semifinals. It’s Bentonville’s eight consecutive appearance in the semis. Bentonville scores 37.7 points weekly while its defense held six of its past seven opponents to 21 points or less. Bentonville senior QB Nathan Lyons rushed for 176 yards and passes for 142 yards a week ago.

Conway at NORTH LR (10): Conway lost Week 5 at North LR 24-14. Conway scores 46 points weekly with senior RB Michael George (5-9, 197; 4.5 speed) gaining 7.8 yards per carry for 2,055 yards this season. George scooted for more than 100 yards for the 10th time this season in last Thursday night’s 48-40 win at Bentonville West. Conway gets an extra day to rest and prepare for the North LR, which waltzed past Fort Smith Northside 34-0 last Friday. North LR outscores opponents by 23 points weekly, allowing just 16.3 points per outing.
