2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
McCrory won its first football state title with a 26-22 win over Rison, which was appearing in its 11 state championship game. McCrory senior quarterback Cade Campbell, playing with a broken nose, completed seven of 15 passes for 153 yards and a TD. Senior tailback and title game MVP Kaigen Rogo rushed for 137 yards and two TDs, caught two passes for 43 yards, made five tackles and intercepted two passes. Senior linebacker Hunter Davis literally busted a gut (low hernia), while collecting at game-high 20 tackles. Rison senior RB Bryson Marks rushed for a game-high 191 yards, including a 78-yard TD blast in the first quarter. McCrory had played for state titles in 1973 and 1979 and lost both. McCrory goes to 2-0 all-time vs. Rison, also topping the Wildcats 18-16 in the 1973 state semifinals at UCA.
FINAL RANKINGS
Eight of ten teams that opened 2015 in the Top 10 finished there. England climbed the highest from No. 18 to No. 5. Bearden (2-7) endured the biggest drop from No. 9 to No. 29.
LAST WEEK
Hootens.com correctly picked the Class 2A title game, nailing the four-point spread. It correctly picked 248 of 294 (84 percent) 2A games for the season.
2015 FARM BUREAU AWARDS
The Farm Bureau Awards will be held Monday, Dec. 14 in North Little Rock. Finalists for Class 2A Offensive Player of the Year are McCrory's Kaigen Rogo, Lafayette County's Tre' Burks, Gurdon's Jackie Harvell. 2A Defensive finalists are Donovan Gurley of Hazen, Holden Byassee of Cross County and Matthew Freeman of Junction City. 2A Coaching finalists include Michael Carter of Conway Christian, Chris Kennon of McCrory and Clay Totty of Rison.
