HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 4 Hamburg at Class 5A No. 8 Camden Fairview
This game has extra significance for Camden Fairview coach Mike Cox, who took Hamburg to 18 wins from 2011-2013. Camden Fairview led Class 6A state title contender El Dorado 6-0 at halftime last week and regained the advantage late in the third quarter before losing by 10 points. The Cardinals held El Dorado to 49 yards passing. Camden Fairview senior running back D.J. Franklin ran for 81 yards and caught a 20-yard TD pass. Senior receiver P.J. Thrower separated his shoulder on the first series and didn't return. “That knocked our screen game off balance,” Cox says. Senior linebackers Roman Ross and Raymond Hill and junior Chris Hargraves anchor the Cardinal defense.

Hamburg hammered Class 3A McGehee by 34 points last week. The Lion offensive line recorded 21 pancake blocks and 11 champion blocks (drove the defender at least 5 yards off the ball). Hamburg seniors John Wilson and Darien Burns and junior E.J. Holmes each ran for more than 75 yards, while senior Lorenzo Watkins tallied 100 yards receiving and scored twice. The Lions return five starters on defense, but none play the same position as a year ago. “Our secondary tackled well,” Hamburg coach Cecil Ray Cossey says. “Camden Fairview is super fast, as fast as any team we'll play. It's a great challenge to tackle them.”
