Star City’s Fourth-Quarter Scores Settle Battle of the Bayou

STAR CITY — Jamarian Spencer scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 4-yard run, and Star City added an 85-yard touchdown pass to defeat Dumas 56-48 Friday at Bulldog Stadium.
Dumas quarterback Toriando Dunlap produced three rushing touchdowns and three touchdown passes. Chaysen Gordon caught seven passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.
Star City scored from the 1-yard line for a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Dunlap answered with a keeper on the opening play of the second quarter, and Kentz Brown’s two-point run put Dumas ahead 8-7.
A quarterback touchdown run and an interception return for a touchdown pushed Star City ahead 21-8.
Dunlap’s 36-yard scoring pass to Gordon brought Dumas within 21-16. Parker Winn answered with a 24-yard touchdown run, but Dunlap connected with Ke’Marion Jackson for a 66-yard score. Brown’s second two-point run made it 28-24.
Star City scored on a 4-yard run with 1:48 remaining. Dunlap’s 7-yard keeper as time expired trimmed the halftime margin to 35-30.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 42-30 in the third quarter. Gordon’s second touchdown reception cut it to 42-36. He then intercepted a pass, setting up Dunlap’s 59-yard touchdown run that tied it 42-42 with 2:10 left in the quarter.
Spencer scored with 8:46 remaining. Star City recovered a fumble at its 15-yard line and scored on the next play. Nery Vargas’ eighth extra point made it 56-42 with 7:09 left.
The Bulldogs recovered the ensuing onside kick. Brown returned an interception for a touchdown with 3:51 remaining, bringing Dumas within eight.
Star City kept possession for the final 3:46 of regulation. A 57-yard sweep from its own 12-yard line moved the Bulldogs into Dumas territory, and two more first downs kept the Bobcats’ offense off the field for the rest of the game.
