Mount Ida’s Defense Delivers Shutout Against Jessieville

MOUNT IDA — Chris Dorrell and Jake Gaston scored second-half rushing touchdowns as Mount Ida defeated Jessieville 15-0 Friday, improving to 3-0.
Buck Miller helped sack Jessieville’s quarterback on fourth-and-11 in the first quarter. Hayden Mosher broke up a fourth-and-eight pass in the second, helping keep the game scoreless through halftime. Dorrell also contributed a punt downed at Jessieville’s 4 with 1:52 remaining in the first half.
Jessieville stopped Mount Ida on downs during the second quarter and forced a punt on the hosts’ opening possession after halftime.
Sophomore Hunter Brewer converted third-and-five with a keeper during Mount Ida’s first scoring drive, which covered 41 yards. Jackson White later entered and completed a 26-yard fourth-down pass to Mosher at the 1.
Dorrell scored on the next play with 3:06 remaining in the third quarter. Jessieville stopped the two-point run, leaving Mount Ida ahead 6-0.
Riley Harmon recovered Miller’s ensuing pop-up kickoff at Jessieville’s 35. White’s 30-yard scramble on second-and-20 moved Mount Ida to the 14. Jessieville held the next three runs short of another first down, but Miller kicked a field goal with 2.8 seconds remaining for a 9-0 lead.
Harmon recorded a fourth-quarter sack. Jessieville subsequently converted fourth down with a quarterback scramble and completed a pass to Tristan Reid before Aaron Gregory recovered a fumbled snap at Mount Ida’s 36 with 9:28 left.
Mount Ida converted two fourth downs during the ensuing 64-yard touchdown drive, which consumed 7:46. Jessieville’s Jacob Graves tackled Jett Brooks for a loss during that possession.
Gaston finished the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-two with 1:42 remaining. Jessieville blocked the extra point.
The visitors completed three passes on their final possession before Mount Ida forced an incompletion on fourth-and-eight with 37.4 seconds left.
Brewer took a knee to finish the shutout.
