Holloway’s 170 Yards Lead Greenwood Past Rogers, 28-14

Rhett Holloway rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown as Greenwood defeated Rogers 28-14 Friday at Smith-Robinson Stadium. The Bulldogs scored all four touchdowns on the ground, earned their first victory and extended their winning streak at the stadium to 78 games.

Holloway carried 25 times and caught a 38-yard pass, totaling 208 yards from scrimmage. Cruz Coatney completed 11 of 17 passes for 135 yards and rushed for two touchdowns.

Rogers scored first when Xander Burke took a direct snap and ran eight yards for a touchdown with 2:28 left in the first quarter. Burke capped a 72-yard, 10-play drive. Juan Chaparro added the extra point.

Coatney tied the game with a 2-yard touchdown run at the 10:56 mark of the second quarter. Thomas Newcity stopped Rogers quarterback Jagger Blockburger on fourth-and-three, giving Greenwood possession inside its own 20.

Holloway’s 38-yard reception on third-and-13 set up Coatney’s second touchdown, a 6-yard keeper with 2:06 remaining before halftime. Landon Franklin’s extra point gave Greenwood a 14-7 lead.

Brayden Renick scored on a 20-yard draw with 3:18 left in the third quarter, extending the advantage to 21-7. Renick finished with four catches for 48 yards and two carries for 18 yards.

AJ Francisco returned an interception 13 yards for a Rogers touchdown with 11:21 left in the fourth quarter. Chaparro’s kick made it 21-14.

Greenwood answered with an 80-yard drive. Holloway broke a 38-yard run, and Renick converted third-and-five with a 6-yard catch. Holloway finished the possession with an 11-yard touchdown run with 7:03 remaining.

Terry McGinister recorded a sack on Rogers’ next possession before Greenwood made its third stop on fourth down. Holloway converted third-and-eight with a 13-yard run, allowing the Bulldogs to finish in victory formation. Mario Dunbar added 66 rushing yards on 17 carries. Greenwood improved to 1-2.
