Parks Scores Four Touchdowns as Mansfield Wins Clash of Champions

MANSFIELD — Quarterback Jubal Parks rushed for four touchdowns as Mansfield defeated Elkins 52-27 Friday in a matchup of defending state champions.
The Class 3A Tigers scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions and converted five two-point attempts. Mansfield improved to 2-2; Elkins, the defending Class 4A champion, is 2-1.
Running back Silas Burton opened the scoring with a 13-yard run. Elkins answered with Austin Born’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Treyton Whittle and Logan Farber’s extra point for a 7-6 lead.
Burton responded with a 73-yard touchdown run, and Colton Moore added the conversion. Josh Hamm’s 2-yard scoring run and Farber’s kick tied it 14-14 before Parks scored from 3 yards out. Moore’s conversion gave Mansfield a 22-14 first-quarter lead.
Mansfield recovered the ensuing onside kick, setting up Parks’ 13-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Born connected with Brayden Walker for a 27-yard touchdown, cutting the margin to 28-21.
Moore gained 24 yards on fourth-and-one during Mansfield’s next possession. He finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown and another conversion, sending the Tigers into halftime ahead 36-21. Mansfield had 339 rushing yards at the break, including 128 on six carries by Burton.
Elkins pulled within 36-27 when Ki’Onte Martin caught a deflected pass from Born for a 12-yard touchdown on fourth down with 8:31 remaining in the third quarter.
Parks answered with a 45-yard completion to Isaac Carson before scoring on a 6-yard run. Moore’s fourth conversion run extended the lead to 44-27.
Mansfield stopped Elkins on fourth down at the Tigers’ 10, then drove 90 yards for Parks’ fourth touchdown, a quarterback sneak with 4:31 remaining. Burton supplied the final conversion.
Born threw three touchdown passes. Martin finished with six catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, while Walker caught three passes for 74 yards and one score.
