Smackover scores five first-quarter touchdowns in conference-opening win

Smackover turned an opening-kickoff recovery into a touchdown just 13 seconds into the game, setting the pace for a 62–0 victory over Harmony Grove on Friday night at Bill Manning Field.

The Buckaroos scored five first-quarter touchdowns, led 48–0 at halftime and finished with eight players reaching the end zone. Trason Parlor threw three touchdown passes, Braxton Bryant scored on a reception and a punt return, and the defense preserved the shutout with a late interception. Smackover improved to 4–0 overall and 1–0 in the 7-3A conference.

Timmy Heaton supplied the first takeaway, recovering the opening kickoff after it bounced away from a Harmony Grove returner. On Smackover’s second offensive play, Madison McElroy took an off-tackle handoff, cut upfield and ran 48 yards for a touchdown. Heaton’s extra point made it 7–0 with 11:47 left in the opening quarter.

Derrick Goodwin broke up a third-down pass on Harmony Grove’s next possession, forcing a punt. Smackover answered with another scoring drive, finishing when Parlor rolled right and found Bryant for a 4-yard touchdown with 8:47 remaining.

Jackson Camacho recovered a fumble on the Hornets’ next possession. Parlor quickly converted that opportunity into his second touchdown pass, connecting with Derwin Goodwin, who spun past a defender near the 5-yard line and reached the end zone. Heaton’s kick pushed the lead to 21–0 with 8:14 left.

Harmony Grove responded by moving across midfield, picking up a first down on a third-down completion and gaining additional yardage on a quarterback scramble. Smackover held the possession without points, and Derrick Goodwin’s punt return gave the Buckaroos the ball near their own 40.

Parlor’s third scoring pass went to Branton Nugent on a post route with 3:45 left in the quarter. Kieundre Billingly added the fifth touchdown, reversing field on a pitch and reaching the opposite pylon on a 34-yard run. Heaton made it 35–0 with 1:37 remaining.

Bryant’s jet sweep, aided by Derwin Goodwin’s downfield block, and another McElroy run positioned Smackover for its next score. Connor Knight took a direct snap, followed Payton Teasley’s block and cut outside for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter.

Bryant later returned a punt for a touchdown, slowing near the sideline to allow a block to develop before turning upfield. That score established the 48–0 halftime margin.

Teasley added a third-quarter rushing touchdown. In the fourth, Ryder Beasley carried Smackover from deep in its territory to the 30 before Micah McElroy broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown. Heaton finished with eight extra points.

Kasey Hicks intercepted Harmony Grove’s final pass, allowing Smackover to kneel out the game. The broadcast selected offensive linemen Mason Loscheider, Stewart Bates, Alliance Points, Christian Aybeta and Clayton Winborn as its players of the game. The unit helped produce five rushing touchdowns, while Aybeta also recorded a second-quarter tackle in the backfield.
