Mackey, Warren Lead Bentonville West Past Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE — Sutton Mackey threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, and Bentonville West answered Fayetteville’s second-quarter rally with 19 consecutive points in a 47-18 victory Friday night at Harmon Field.
The Wolverines improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the 7A West. Four of their scoring drives included fourth-down completions. Fayetteville, now 2-2 and 0-1, got two interceptions from Blake Johnson, including a 25-yard touchdown return.
VJ Warren scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 1-yard run with 9:24 remaining in the opening quarter. Davin Renick added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. Ethan Clingfost’s third-down sack ended Fayetteville’s next possession.
Mackey’s 8-yard keeper extended the advantage to 15-0 with 2:53 left. Ty Ross converted third-and-long with a 23-yard reception during the drive, and Ryan Adjam caught a fourth-and-2 pass to move West into the red zone.
Aron Orgil’s 38-yard completion to Huck Broyles helped set up Ethan Farthing’s 43-yard field goal late in the first quarter. West answered with Ethan Robinson’s 37-yard field goal after Asher Swoboda caught a 13-yard pass on fourth-and-6. Jeremiah Conley and Will Caston combined to tackle Warren for a 3-yard loss before Robinson’s kick.
Sage Anderson’s 50-yard reception led to Farthing’s 29-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 18-6. Beckham Swope recovered the ensuing onside kick at West’s 47, giving the Purple Dogs another possession.
Terrance Garden converted fourth-and-5 with a 13-yard screen reception, and Orgil found Jayden Nicholson for a 16-yard touchdown on the next play. West stopped the two-point attempt, preserving an 18-12 lead with 5:11 left before halftime.
Jacob Paulk answered with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Ross with 3:48 remaining. Paulk delivered the throw while taking a hit, and Ross caught it behind the defense.
Josiah LaValle’s third-down sack for an 8-yard loss helped force a Fayetteville punt on the next possession. West took over at the Purple Dogs’ 34 and scored on fourth-and-4 when Mackey rolled right and threw a screen back left to Warren for a 28-yard touchdown.
Dane Renick intercepted Orgil on Fayetteville’s final possession of the half, and West took a 30-12 lead into the break.
The Wolverines opened the third quarter with a 10-play, 55-yard touchdown drive. Ross caught a 14-yard pass on third-and-13, and Mackey finished the possession with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Adjam. Robinson’s kick made it 37-12 with 6:50 remaining.
Johnson returned his second interception 25 yards for a touchdown with 1:43 left in the third quarter. Fayetteville’s two-point pass fell incomplete, leaving West ahead 37-18.
West retained possession late in the quarter when Paulk threw to Swoboda for 30 yards on a fake punt, converting fourth-and-14. Robinson followed with a 39-yard field goal early in the fourth.
Lucas Williams finished West’s final scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:35 remaining. He also converted third-and-4 and third-and-1 with runs during the possession.
