Parkview’s three-touchdown third quarter powers victory over Greenbrier

GREENBRIER — Parkview scored 22 unanswered points in the third quarter, turning a 27–14 halftime lead into a 56–21 victory over Greenbrier on Friday night in the 5A-Central opener.

Elijah Moody finished with 235 rushing yards on nine carries, including a 98-yard fourth-quarter touchdown, according to the broadcast’s final statistics. Sadiq Goji added 146 yards on 22 attempts. Greenbrier’s Ashyr Crow rushed nine times for 176 yards and scored on runs of 71 and 80 yards.

Parkview improved to 3–1 overall and 1–0 in conference play. Greenbrier finished the night 2–2 and 0–1.

Moody supplied the opening touchdown with a keeper around the outside, using a stiff-arm to reach the end zone with 7:09 remaining in the first quarter. Kaden Hernandez’s extra point gave Parkview a 7–0 lead.

Greenbrier answered on its first offensive play. Crow found room, cut outside and accelerated down the sideline for a 71-yard touchdown. The extra point tied the game 7–7 with 6:45 left.

The Panthers’ defense then forced a punt on Parkview’s next possession. Greenbrier also held a second-quarter scoring opportunity without points when a mishandled field-goal snap ended another Patriots possession.

Parkview regained the lead with 6:22 remaining before halftime. Moody dropped back and delivered a deep pass down the left sideline, hitting his receiver in stride for a touchdown. The unsuccessful extra point left the Patriots ahead 13–7.

An interception and return to Greenbrier’s 15 created the next scoring opportunity. Goji took Moody’s handoff, found an opening up the middle and broke two tackles on his way into the end zone. The extra point extended the lead to 20–7 with 4:34 left.

A long Moody run later moved Parkview to the 2-yard line. The Patriots finished that possession with a short touchdown run and added the kick for a 27–7 advantage with 33 seconds remaining.

Crow gave Greenbrier an immediate response before halftime. He cut upfield, broke outside and completed an 80-yard touchdown run. The extra point brought the Panthers within 27–14.

Parkview’s first touchdown after intermission came on another rushing play, making it 33–14 after the unsuccessful kick. Two third-quarter interceptions then set up additional touchdowns.

Goji scored untouched from 8 yards, and Moody ran for the two-point conversion to make it 41–14 with 4:39 left. Another interception return positioned Parkview near the goal line. A short touchdown run and successful two-point conversion widened the lead to 49–14.

Greenbrier answered in the fourth quarter behind sophomore quarterback Tyler Hart. A completion to Silas Bush and a roughing-the-passer penalty helped move the Panthers into scoring position. Hart finished the drive with a short keeper, cutting the margin to 49–21.

Moody supplied the final touchdown with 5:04 remaining. Starting from Parkview’s 2, he escaped around the left side and raced 98 yards down the sideline. The extra point completed the scoring.
