Morley’s three long scoring runs power Malvern past Hope

Malvern 42, Hope 6
HOPE — Wesley Morley scored three rushing touchdowns and piled up 193 yards on seven first-half carries, according to the Malvern broadcast, as the Leopards defeated Hope 42-6 Friday night.
Malvern scored on each of its first three possessions and led 42-0 at halftime. Aaron Pinkston and Brad Saling added rushing touchdowns, while Trevor Hodges found Terrence Hawkins for another score. The Leopards improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in 7-4A play with their third consecutive victory. Hope fell to 0-5 and 0-2.
Morley needed only two carries to put Malvern ahead. He gained nine yards on the first play from scrimmage, then broke through the left side from the Leopards’ 43 and ran untouched to the end zone. Allen Cervantes’ kick made it 7-0 with 11:10 remaining in the first quarter.
After Malvern forced a punt, Morley struck again on the first play of the next possession. He slipped a tackle, cut outside and outran the pursuit from the Malvern 34. Cervantes added the extra point for a 14-0 lead with 8:20 left.
Hope answered with a completion from Austin Courtney to Jaiden Brown that carried the Bobcats to Malvern’s 30. Saling made the touchdown-saving tackle, and the Leopards eventually took over on downs. Saling then supplied a long run into Hope territory on Malvern’s next possession. Jeremiah Jimerson added a six-yard gain near the goal line before Pinkston faked the handoff and kept around the right side for a 10-yard touchdown with 1:39 remaining. Cervantes made it 21-0.
Hope produced a defensive stop early in the second quarter. JJ Gulley made a backfield tackle, and pressure from Joel Bello and Fernando Perez helped force an incomplete pass and a punt. Malvern’s defense returned the favor, backing Hope toward its goal line and forcing another punt.
Hodges directed the next touchdown drive. He converted a first down with a keeper into Hope territory, and Morley finished the possession with a 46-yard run. An offside penalty gave Cervantes another chance after his first kick missed; he made the retry for a 28-0 advantage with 5:29 remaining.
Tyrese Osborne’s punt return set up Malvern at the Hope 10 on its next possession. Saling scored from there, and Cervantes’ fifth extra point made it 35-0 with 3:48 left. The Leopards added one more touchdown before intermission when Hodges found Hawkins out of the backfield. Hawkins reached the pylon, and the successful kick made it 42-0 with 37 seconds remaining.
Hope scored in the third quarter after Cayden Haywood stopped Hawkins on fourth down. Courtney found Brown across the middle, and Brown outran the defense for a touchdown. Nathan Sanchez’s extra point struck the left upright and was no good.
Jaiden Baker intercepted a fourth-quarter pass to stop another Hope drive. Malvern kept possession for the remaining time and closed out the victory with the running clock in effect.
