Alcocer scores three times as Danville rolls past Conway Christian

Danville 42, Conway Christian 6
CONWAY — Christian Alcocer scored three rushing touchdowns and Will Wilson threw two touchdown passes as Danville defeated Conway Christian 42-6 Friday night at Mission Field.
The Little Johns scored twice in each of the first three quarters and intercepted three passes. Their defense repeatedly kept the Eagles from turning promising possessions into points, helping Danville build a 28-0 halftime lead before two more touchdowns pushed the margin to 42-0.
Conway Christian scored in the fourth quarter when quarterback Crafton Fowler kept the ball after a fake handoff and ran into the end zone. The two-point pass was unsuccessful.
Neither team scored on its first possession, but Danville soon gained the field-position advantage. Blake Vaughn and Michael Miller helped bring down Fowler behind the line, and a short punt gave the Little Johns the ball at the Eagles’ 21.
Wilson completed a pass to Jonathan Blanco to move Danville near the goal line. JJ Alcantar finished the possession with a one-yard touchdown run, and the extra point made it 7-0 with 4:28 left in the first quarter.
Conway Christian responded with a long completion from Fowler to Makhi Pleasant, but an interception ended that threat. Wilson then supplied a long gain on the ground to move Danville into scoring position. After Conway Christian’s LJ Scott helped disrupt plays near the goal line, Alcocer went around the right side for a seven-yard touchdown. The kick extended the lead to 14-0 with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Kobe Dominguez intercepted Fowler in the second quarter, and Danville eventually faced fourth-and-eight at the Conway Christian 32. Wilson found Jesus Ochoa behind the defense for a touchdown, making it 21-0 after the kick.
The Eagles drove into Danville territory late in the half. Cameron Elder made a reception to bring up fourth-and-three, but a pass intended for Matthew Corbin fell incomplete with 20 seconds remaining. Alcocer broke free on Danville’s next play and scored with seven seconds left, sending the Little Johns to halftime ahead 28-0.
Alcocer added his third touchdown on Danville’s opening possession of the second half. He escaped a cluster of defenders and accelerated into the open field, stretching the lead to 35-0 with 9:49 remaining in the third quarter.
Preston Helms intercepted a pass on Conway Christian’s next series. Danville turned that takeaway into its final touchdown. Alcantar supplied productive runs, and Wilson completed a pass to Lane Schoby for a first down before finding Clayton Harmon for a two-yard touchdown with 2:41 left in the third.
Conway Christian’s scoring drive featured determined runs from Carter Herrington and a first-down reception by Sawyer Allen before Fowler’s touchdown keeper. The Eagles’ defense forced a late punt, but Danville’s early control of field position and three takeaways had already settled the outcome.
