Mason Ball ran for 251 yards and four touchdowns, and Jacksonville stopped a fourth-quarter Vilonia threat before finishing a 50-29 victory Friday night at Phillip D. Weaver Stadium.

Ball carried 19 times for the Titans, who improved to 6-1 with the 5A-Central win. Kingston Burnett completed 12 of 18 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns and added a 3-yard touchdown run. Vilonia fell to 2-5.

Mazaiah Davis scored on both of his receptions, totaling 82 yards, while Jakobe Boone caught seven passes for 126 yards. Jacksonville led 22-15 at halftime and 42-22 late in the third quarter, but Vilonia cut the deficit to 13 and recovered an onside kick early in the fourth.

The Eagles drove to the Jacksonville 8 before an incomplete fourth-down pass ended the possession with 6:35 remaining. The Titans then went 92 yards, with a long Burnett completion to Boone helping set up Ball’s fourth touchdown, a 5-yard run.

Burnett and Davis opened the scoring with 5:16 left in the first quarter. After the snap hit the ground, Burnett recovered the ball and found Davis in the end zone. The extra point gave Jacksonville a 7-0 lead.

Vilonia answered with a touchdown pass from Cooper Hanson to Hunter Harwood. An offside penalty against Jacksonville gave the Eagles another conversion opportunity, and holder Brody Williams ran in a fake extra point for two points and an 8-7 lead with 1:54 left in the quarter.

Burnett put Jacksonville back ahead on a 3-yard bootleg early in the second quarter. Ball later broke into the open field for his first touchdown, then ran in the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 22-8 with 1:15 remaining before halftime.

Hanson kept Vilonia close with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Ringgold with 23 seconds left in the half. Luke Robinson’s extra point made it 22-15.

Davis scored again less than a minute into the third quarter, pushing Jacksonville ahead 29-15. Hanson responded with a touchdown pass to Williams, who turned upfield and worked past defenders to bring the Eagles back within seven. Ball answered with a 38-yard touchdown run, and Christian Gurrola’s kick made it 36-22.

Vilonia’s Mason Gunter broke up a fourth-down pass to end Jacksonville’s next drive, but the Eagles lost a fumble on the ensuing possession. Jaterrion Williams recovered for the Titans, and Ball scored from 6 yards out. Vilonia stopped the two-point attempt, leaving Jacksonville ahead 42-22.

The Eagles scored early in the fourth quarter to close to 42-29. Von Fronabarger then recovered an onside kick, giving Vilonia the ball in Jacksonville territory and another chance to cut into the lead. The Titans’ fourth-down stop and subsequent scoring drive ended that comeback attempt.
