HOPE — Jacoby Hopson rushed for five touchdowns, including four in the first quarter, as unbeaten Nashville rolled to a 63-6 victory over Hope on Friday night.

The Scrappers scored eight touchdowns before halftime, building a 56-0 lead. DJ Jefferson added a touchdown run, Bo Dean returned an interception for a score and Mack Arnold threw a touchdown pass to Al Green. Nashville improved to 8-0; Hope fell to 1-7.

Hopson finished the opening possession with a run up the middle with 8:46 left in the first quarter. He helped rescue the next scoring drive by turning a third-and-13 screen pass into a tackle-breaking gain down the sideline, then scored on a run to the right with 6:31 remaining.

His third touchdown came on a cutback run. Hopson changed direction, made a defender miss and reached the end zone to help put Nashville ahead 21-0 with 3:47 left. He scored again off the left side with 32 seconds remaining, completing a four-touchdown quarter that left the Scrappers ahead 28-0.

Nashville recovered a Hope fumble early in the second quarter and returned to work on offense. Hopson took a handoff to the right and scored his fifth touchdown, extending the lead to 35-0 with 9:19 remaining before halftime.

Jefferson supplied the next score. Keeping the ball on an option play, he ran up the middle and hurdled a defender on his way into the end zone. The extra point made it 42-0 with 7:10 left.

Dean added a defensive touchdown with 3:50 remaining, stepping in front of an Austin Courtney pass and taking the interception to the end zone. Nashville then scored with its younger offensive players. Arnold picked up a first down on a keeper before connecting with Green on a tunnel screen to the right. Green broke a tackle and raced up the sideline for a touchdown with 38 seconds left. The extra point completed the 56-point half.

Trunks Hawthorne scored Nashville’s final touchdown in the third quarter, taking a handoff from Arnold and bursting through the middle. The successful extra point stretched the lead to 63-0 during the running-clock second half.

Hope broke through in the fourth quarter. Courtney extended a fourth-down play and found Cayden Haywood in the back of the end zone for the Bobcats’ lone touchdown. Nashville’s Braiden Friend blocked the extra-point attempt to keep the final margin at 63-6.
