No. 17 Harrison (1-0) at Class 6A No. 5 MOUNTAIN HOME (1-0): Harrison leads the all-time series with Mountain Home 56-19-3, but the Bombers tagged the Goblins 44-31 in 2023 and 30-14 a year ago (first win at Harrison since 2012). Mountain Home rallied for a 49-30 victory in last week’s season-opener at West Plains, Mo. The Bombers rolled up 500 yards of offense, led by QB Brantlee Phillips‘ 345 total yards and 3 TDs. He passed for 216 yards and 2 scores, with 129 yards rushing and another TD on the ground. All-state playmaker Barrett Miller totaled more than 250 all-purpose yards and 5 scores against West Plains. Carter Adkins caught a TD pass and intercepted a pass.

Harrison junior QB Gavin Jones threw the winning 48-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to Caleb Melendez to spark last week’s 35-27 win at Branson, Mo. Senior Eli McNutt led the Goblins’ ground attack with 2 TDs, while junior Killian Eddings and Isaiah Hale each ran for 1 TD.

Maumelle (0-1) at LR PARKVIEW (0-0) (Thurs.): Bobby Bolding debuts as LR Parkview’s coach after coordinating the defense the previous 3 seasons. The Patriots tied their scrimmage game against LR Catholic 21-21. Senior OL/DL Nygel Farsee (6-3, 310) enjoyed a solid summer and scrimmage game, Bolding says. Maumelle failed on a potential game-winning 2-point conversion with 5 seconds left in last week’s 55-54 loss at Sylvan Hills. The Hornets gave up 657 yards to Sylvan Hills. Christian Jackson led the offense with 190 yards receiving and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a TD.

 Class 6A Jonesboro (1-0) at JOE T. ROBINSON (1-0): Joe T. Robinson must quickly return from the high of beating Class 7A Pulaski Academy last week. The Senators used defense and special teams to fuel the win. Senior Deuce Williams returned an interception 25 yards for a TD on the second play of the game, then minutes later returned an onside kick 45 yards for another TD. Junior DB Hakim Frampton also returned an interception (42 yards) for a TD and LB Jackson Redmon tackled PA’s running back in the end zone for a safety. Jonesboro lost at Class 7A Conway last week, despite getting 249 yards passing from senior QB Asa Myers.

 Pine Bluff (0-1) at KIMBALL, Texas (Sat.): This game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sprague Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Kimball beat the Zebras 35-6 a year ago. Pine Bluff lost at Grenada, Miss., 42-6 last week, after trailing 35-0 in the second quarter. Pine Bluff sophomore QB Jamar Morrow passed for 218 yards and 1 TD at Grenada.

 VALLEY VIEW (1-0) at Searcy (1-0): Valley View handled Poplar Bluff, Mo. 35-18 a week ago, with Carter Wallace running 15 times for 157 yards and 4 TDs. Valley View’s defense recorded 13 tackles for loss. Searcy’s DeAndre Shockley tallied 113 yards and 1 TD on 4 punt returns, and rushed for 102 yards and 2 TDs. QB Jacob Miles passed for 235 yards and 3 TDs. “Searcy’s defensive front is great,” Valley View Coach Sean Cockrell says.

 

Class 4A WARREN (0-1) at White Hall (0-1): Warren has beaten White Hall 3 of 5 times since 2020.

Lumberjacks junior QB Jackson Denton, who missed last year with a leg injury, returned to throw 4 TD passes in last week’s 57-32 loss to Class 5A Greenbrier. White Hall led Sheridan 14-7 in the second quarter last week before losing 58-28. Junior QB Wyatt Golden threw 3 TD passes to Kel McEntire. McEntire also returned a kickoff 56 yards for a TD.

Beebe (0-1) at NETTLETON (1-0): Beebe lost to Vilonia 6-3 last week, while Nettleton’s game vs. Trumann was called (Trumann forfeited) in the third quarter with Nettleton leading 34-14. Beebe’s Andy Rodriguez nailed a 25-yard field goal for Beebe’s points. Senior RB Curtis Goodrich (20-90 rushing) and WR Kam Johnson (2-74 receiving) were the top offensive weapons. Johnson added 10 tackles at safety, while senior LB Luke Lewis made 14 tackles. Nettleton RB Xavier Harrell finished with 133 yards and 3 TDs vs. Trumann, while Damion Coleman recorded 6 TFLs.

Class 4A Crossett (0-1) at WATSON CHAPEL (0-1): Watson Chapel has won the previous 4 meetings over its former conference rival, including 19-7 last fall. Crossett’s defense played well in last week’s 45-8 loss at Prescott. Watson Chapel sophomore WR Jakenzye Miller caught 3 passes for 45 yards and returned a kickoff for a TD in last week’s 50-14 loss to Helena. Sophomore WR JaKylinn Battles had 4 receptions for 67 yards.

 Class 4A Lonoke (0-1) at JACKSONVILLE (0-1): Jacksonville won this game 8-7 last season. The Titans fell to Malvern 22-14 last week. RB Mason Ball ran 32 yards for a TD. Lonoke pushed Stuttgart last week before falling 24-20. Lonoke junior QB Dylan Dean passed for 235 yards and 1 TD at Stuttgart, while sophomore Darrius Jeffrey caught 8 passes for 91 yards and 1 TD. Junior Ryder Ingle ran 9 times for 46 yards and led the Jackrabbits with 11 tackles.

 

5A EAST

VALLEY VIEW (1-0) at Searcy (1-0): Comment in 5A Central.

Class 6A MARION (1-0) at Harding Academy (0-0): Marion beat Harding Academy by 30 points last year, the first meeting between these programs. The Patriots beat Wynne 60-27 last week. Marion senior Kajeris Hill returned a punt 82 yards for a TD, and his twin brother Kejeris Hill returned a kickoff 73 yards for a TD. Former Shiloh Christian defensive coordinator Ashley Henley succeeds Neil Evans as Harding Academy coach. Evans compiled a record of 96-21 and won 4 state titles.

 WYNNE (0-1) at Class 4A Forrest City (0-1): Wynne has won 17 of the past 21 in the series, including last season 56-36. The Yellowjackets led or trailed 20-13 late in the first half of last week’s 60-27 loss at Class 6A Marion. Senior Corbin O’Hara sparked Wynne with a 90-yard interception return for a TD. He also made 2 tackles anda pass breakup. Christian Wren ran for 105 yards and 1 TD. Forrest City lost to Southside Batesville 35-8 last week.

Class 3A NEWPORT (1-0) at Batesville (0-1): Batesville has won 10 of the past 12 in the series, but Newport won 66-24 a year ago. Batesville’s offense struggled to find consistency in last week’s 45-7 loss to Searcy. Newport handled Marked Tree 38-6 last week. Trevion Greer ran for 247 yards and 3 TDs for Newport, while Dayrin Braxton caught a 41-yard TD pass from QB Luke Reynolds.

 Class 4A POCAHONTAS (0-1) at Greene Co. Tech (0-1): Defending Class 3A champion Salem beat Pocahontas 28-8 last week. Pocahontas’ Xayver Ballard ran for 85 yards and 1 TD vs. Salem. Greene County Tech surrendered more than 300 yards rushing in a 40-26 loss to Gosnell.

Kennett, Mo. at PARAGOULD (1-0): Paragould beat Kennett, Mo., 38-0 a year ago. Paragould’s Rayton Ysawa returned 2 fumbles for TDs and intercepted a pass in last week’s 35-8 win over Manila.

Brookland (0-0) at Class 4A HIGHLAND (0-1): Brookland opens its season after scrimmaging Trumann on Aug. 19. The Bearcats’ defense played well in the scrimmage. Highland lost to Thayer, Mo., 41-24 last week. Rebels junior QB Austin Christy passed for 284 yards and 4 TDs, with senior Nate Huckabee grabbing 9 passes for 158 yards and 1 TD. The Rebels were held to 32 rushing yards.

 5A SOUTH

 Class 6A El Dorado (0-1) at CAMDEN FAIRVIEW (0-1): El Dorado has won 9 of the past 11 over Camden Fairview, including dramatic 1-point wins each of the past 2 years (21-20 in 2023 and 35-34 in 2024). Both teams are reeling after losses last week. LR Christian beat El Dorado 35-14 after jumping to a 28-0 advantage in the first half. Arkadelphia beat Camden Fairview 17-14 last week. Fairview junior Dayton Browning ran 8 times for 133 yards and caught 5 passes for 43 yards.

HS LAKESIDE (1-0) at Class 6A Sheridan (1-0): This is the Hootens.com Class 6A Game of the Week. HS Lakeside has won 2 of the past 3 over Sheridan, including last year 56-27. Sheridan erased an early deficit last week to roll White Hall 58-28. Senior QB Dax McMellon passed for 457 yards and 5 TDs, while junior Zay Stephens scored 4 TDs after sitting out the first quarter for disciplinary reasons. HS Lakeside was ultra impressive in its 56-20 win at Lake Hamilton. The Rams scored on every possession. Junior Peter Ohman ran for 91 yards and 3 TDs, all in the first half, while Tremendous Cain ran for 2 TDs in the second half. LB Cannon Martin and S Chris Ford led the Ram defense. “We can’t have any turnovers and have to recover onside kicks,” HS Lakeside Coach Gerren Rockwell says.

 Class 4A ARKADELPHIA (1-0) at Hot Springs (1-0): Arkadelphia has won 16 of the past 24 in the series, including last year 46-14. Arkadelphia LB Quentavion Morris stood out in Arkadelphia’s 3-point win over Camden Fairview last week. Badgers QB Bryceton McCoy was injured in the first half and didn’t return. Hot Springs senior QB Bishop Allen passed for 259 yards and 6 TDs in last week’s 57-20 win at Class 6A West Memphis. Brothers Luey Jaime and Gabe Jaime combined for 13 catches, 195 yards and 5 TDs.

MORRILTON (1-0) at Arkansas High (0-1): Morrilton turned to its running attack in last week’s 48-35 win at Class 6A Russellville, with Brelan Criswell running 12 times for 279 yards and 4 TDs. Arkansas High led LR Catholic until late last week, losing 21-20. The Razorbacks held LR Catholic to 52 yards passing, but gave up 277 rushing.

Hope (0-0) at Class 4A NASHVILLE (0-1): Nashville has beaten Hope 19 of the past 23 seasons, including a delayed 51-7 triumph last year on Saturday after Friday storms forced the postponement. Hope didn’t play last week, while Magnolia beat Nashville 31-6. Nashville committed 2 turnovers and the defense surrendered 306 yards rushing.

Class 3A Horatio (0-0) at DE QUEEN (0-1): Horatio didn’t play last week, while De Queen lost to Mena 28-0. De Queen snapped a 29-game losing streak last year with its 35-0 win over Horatio.

MORRILTON (1-0) at Arkansas High (0-1): Comment in 5A South.

Class 7A HAR-BER (0-1) at Farmington (1-0): This could be a shootout like last season, when Har-Ber outlasted Farmington 65-48 but later had to forfeit. Har-Ber lost to Broken Arrow, Okla., 35-14 last week after trailing the Oklahoma power 14-0 in the third quarter. Har-Ber QB Brice Owens threw a 25-yard TD pass to Treyson Reith. Farmington held on to beat Edmond North (Okla.) 43-42 a week ago. Senior QB Ayden Lester passed for 321 yards, while senior Brady Richards caught 13 passes for 199 yards.

GREENBRIER (1-0) at Class 6A Russellville (0-1): Russellville has won 3 in a row over Greenbrier, including 10-7 a year ago. This should be another close game. Russellville led Morrilton 29-20 in the third quarter last week before losing 48-35. The Cyclones outgained the Devil Dogs 483-457, but Morrilton scored on 5 of its 6 second-half drives. QB Marcellus Olson-Patton passed for 124 yards and 2 TDs and ran for 213 yards and 1 TD. Greenbrier RB Enoch Assan ran for 6 TDs in a 57-32 win at Class 4A Warren.

Vilonia (1-0) at CLASS 6A SYLVAN HILLS (1-0): Vilonia QB Coleson Ashcraft scored the only TD (and winning points) in last week’s 6-3 victory at Beebe. Ashcraft finished with 99 yards rushing and passed for 59 yards. Von Fronabarger made 14 tackles and 1 sack, while Ryan Deal had 7 tackles, 2 sacks and 3 QB hurries. Sylvan Hills snapped a 22-game losing streak with last week’s 55-54 win over Maumelle. The Bears generated 657 yards and came up with a stop on a 2-point conversion try with 5 seconds left.

Class 6A Siloam Springs (0-0) at ALMA (1-0): Siloam Springs second-year coach Doug Loughridge led Alma to a 48-36 record from 2013-2019. Siloam Springs was on its way to victory last week, leading Class 7A Heritage 21-0 with 47 seconds in the first half when the stadium lights went out and the game was canceled. Alma led rival Van Buren 29-21 in the fourth quarter last week before losing 40-29. Senior Samuel Schlegel proved he’s one of the better all-purpose players in Class 5A, finishing with 97 yards receiving and 1 TD, 66 yards rushing and 1 TD, 40 yards passing and 1 TD, 53 yards on kick returns and averaging 35 yards on 5 punts.

Class 4A GENTRY (1-0) at Pea Ridge (0-1): Gentry beat Stilwell, Okla., last week 35-12. Senior QB Talan Williams passed for 200 yards and 2 TDs, and ran 3 times for 40 yards. Senior Tylan Owl finished with 4 catches for 61 yards and 1 TD, while senior Owen Foreman caught 2 passes for 75 yards and 1 TD. Pea Ridge lost to Gravette 27-6 a week ago.
