Bryant 31, Newton 14
Bryant continued its winning ways Friday night with a 31-14 victory over Georgia power Newton, improving to 2-0 in the young season. The Hornets leaned on a balanced attack and a dominant defense that forced turnovers and stifled the Rams’ ground game.
Quarterback duo Jeremiah Moes and Kyler Shelby combined for efficient passing, with Shelby hitting Kamari Austin for a 25-yard touchdown and Caleb Tucker for a 13-yard score. Running back Colin Robinson, back from injury, stole the show with two rushing touchdowns, including a highlight 35-yarder that showcased his power and speed. Tight end Cooper Billingsley provided steady production with multiple chain-moving receptions.
Newton, playing its fourth game of the season after traveling from Georgia, flashed explosiveness behind sophomore wideout DJ Mims, who turned a short pass into a 78-yard touchdown sprint in the second half. Running back Darius White added a 4-yard touchdown run to keep the Rams within striking distance before halftime.
Bryant’s defense was relentless. Matthew Nelson blocked a field goal and forced a fumble, Day Wilson grabbed an interception, and linemen Malachi McDonald and Ryan Horn clogged the interior. Newton’s heralded backfield led by Kevin Hartsfield was held in check most of the night.
The win gives Bryant momentum heading into a showdown with Parkview, while Newton drops to 2-2.
