HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK

No. 15 Earle (2-1) at No. 5 DES ARC (2-1)

Earle was off last week after losing to Class 3A Walnut Ridge 58-40 in Week 2. QB Ta’Ron Hurts (5-10 passing, 150 yards, 2 TDs), Derek Lately Jr. (2 TD receptions), Darion Maple (19-134 rushing, TD) and Kenota Harris (60-yard kickoff return TD) led Earle’s offense..

Earle Coach AC Coleman says his team must take care of the football and win the turnover battle.  “We have to be disciplined and play assignment football, cut down on penalties, and focus on doing our job each play,” he says. “We know what we’re up against, but our mindset is about us — playing our brand of football and executing with effort and toughness the Bulldog way.”

Des Arc’s running game features one of the largest offensive lines in the state, regardless of classification.

The Eagles feature a power running attack, which Carlisle was able to slow down in its 45-22 win last Friday. The Eagles had 164 yards rushing against Carlisle, led by QB Hudson Goodman, who had 73 yards on 11 carries.

Des Arc Coach Nick Smith says there are no weak teams in the 2-2A.

“Each week, you have to take care of business,” he says. “You can’t afford to have those kinds of issues [like against Carlisle] within our conference. We’re still 6, 7, 8 deep in our conference that can beat anybody in the state in any week. We’ve got to go through this week and make adjustments. We’ve got the Earle Bulldogs coming into town. They are a very dangerous team. They have a good scheme offensively. We’ve got to make sure we’re ready to go Friday night.”
