Monticello rolls past Dumas, 39-8
Monticello 39, Dumas 8
MONTICELLO — Monticello leaned on a punishing ground game and timely play-action to defeat Dumas 39-8 in the Bobcats’ non-conference finale before 8-3A play.
Senior quarterback Jackson Hines directed the Billies with multiple red-zone keepers and a first-quarter strike that set the tone. Junior tailback Joseph Accelus provided the burst between the tackles, while 6-foot-6 tight end Jaxon Rawls was a mismatch on the edge and in the seam. Senior wideout Jayden Rhodes stretched the field, and fullback/linebacker Edardo Ramos paved lanes as a lead blocker in the goal-line package.
Dumas answered with flashes of its own. Senior Marcus Kilgore — a two-way threat at receiver/quarterback — hauled in the Bobcats’ lone touchdown, and junior Ke’Marion Jackson flipped field position with a long jet sweep to ignite the fourth-quarter drive. Junior Rashad Moore ran with power between the tackles, and sophomore quarterback Kyle Young distributed to multiple targets in a quick-game passing plan.
Monticello built a 26-0 halftime lead behind a deep ball from Hines to Danner Loyd and three short plunges out of heavy sets, often following Ramos. Dumas’ defense found stops after the break, but the Billies’ methodical scoring drive late in the third quarter made it 39-0 and effectively sealed it. The Bobcats avoided the shutout when Young zipped a red-zone touchdown to Kilgore, then Moore powered in the two-point run.
