The Eagles’ balanced offense produced 5 TDs while the defense held the Little Johns to a single score. Cutter-Morning Star edged Perryville 30-22 in its conference opener behind a steady offensive attack, and the defense delivered key stops late to secure the victory. Smackover, opening conference play with a 48-0 win over Parker’s Chapel, remains among the conference’s top contenders. Senior RB Caedmon Keithley scored 3 TDs on 4 carries for 57 yards and added a pick-six TD on defense. Sophomore Cayden Burch contributed a rushing touchdown and threw for a score. This week’s showdown should hinge on which defense can rise up and take control.
Horatio (0-4) at No. 15 PRESCOTT (3-1): Horatio is still winless after a 42-20 loss to Centerpoint. The Lions managed 20 points but couldn’t keep pace with the Knights’ high-powered attack. Lake Village (1-3) at No. 20 MCGEHEE (2-2): Lake Village fell to Dumas 14-7, as the Beavers’ defense kept the game close. The loss dropped Lake Village to 2-2. McGehee came up short in a 21-8 defeat to Drew Central, a game that marked the Owls’ first loss to the Pirates. No. 9 RISON (2-2) at No. 13 Dumas: Rison opened conference play with a hard-fought 40-35 win over Palestine-Wheatley. The Wildcats leaned heavily on their ground game, led by junior quarterback Kyson Walker, who carried 21 times for 230 yards and 4 touchdowns. Senior WR Marcus Kilgore put up 129 receiving yards and a touchdown, highlighted by a 67-yard grab. Sophomore QB Kyle Young passed for 168 yards and 2 TDs. Ball-control offense and timely passing proved to be the difference in the close contest. This week’s matchup has the makings of a thriller, with both teams bringing playmakers on both sides of the ball.
Barton (2-2) at PALESTINE-WHEATLEY (3-1): Barton forfeited last week’s scheduled game with Fordyce after a shortage of players stemming from a Week 2 brawl with Marianna. Palestine-Wheatley trailed Rison 34-14 but battled back, taking a brief lead after a Rison turnover set up a scoring drive. The Patriots ultimately fell 40-35, but the passing game showed explosive potential. Junior WR Easton Vaccaro posted 231 receiving yards, 2 touchdown catches, 27 rushing yards, and a rushing score. Senior QB Brody Parker completed 12 of 18 passes for 299 yards and 3 TDs. Palestine-Wheatley dropped last year’s matchup 21-20, but this year’s squad looks much more dangerous, and will be tough for anyone to stop.
