Maumelle 42, Watson Chapel 0

PINE BLUFF — Maumelle strung together three first-quarter touchdowns and coasted, blanking Watson Chapel 42-0 on Friday behind a crisp night from junior quarterback Levi Warrior and a swarming Hornet defense.

Warrior spread the ball efficiently, tossing scores to Bubba Johnson and Jackson Hampton while guiding a balanced attack that also featured senior backs Mohammed Qtouf and Jacob Henry. Senior Marshaun Wiley turned the perimeter game into explosives, finishing with three first-half touchdowns as Maumelle (conference 3-0) seized control early.

Defensively, the Hornets generated steady pressure and suffocated the run. Linebacker Davian Jordan triggered timely blitzes and Maumelle closed the night with a late takeaway when defensive back Darius Glover high-pointed a deep ball to preserve the shutout.

Watson Chapel (0-conference) found flashes. Senior Malachi Rayford rotated in at quarterback, hitting a couple of chain-moving throws and keeping on designed runs, while sophomore Jkenzye Miller and sophomore Jakilynn Battles showed speed in space. The Wildcats’ front also produced a second-half sack and an interception in the red zone to stall a Hornet drive.

Maumelle, coached by Brian Maupin, hosts Jacksonville next week. Watson Chapel, led by Steven Heard, will seek its first league win after showing second-half resolve and special-teams juice.
