HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK

No. 2 Bentonville (7-0, 4-0)  at No. 3 ROGERS (7-0, 4-0)

Bentonville rolled Fayetteville 48-14 to maintain its No. 2 ranking. QB Cole Slepcki, who finished with nearly 250 passing yards, threw 5 first-half TD passes. Chris Ficklin rushed more than 200 yards in the first half.

The Tigers defense is yielding 5.5 points per game in 4 conference games, and Bentonville has not lost a conference game since Oct. 20, 2023.

Rogers averages 60 points per game, and QB Jeff Regan and there might be a groundswell for him to run for Mayor, if he were old enough. Regan threw for 388 yards and accounted for 6 first-half TDs, 4 through the air, as the Mounties produced 794 yards of offense in their 70-14 victory at Springdale. Titus Cramer and Dracen Voak caught TDs last week before anyone could blink. : Regan and Rogers party like it’s 2023 and edge the Tigers at home.

WEEK 8 PREDICTIONS  (favored team in ALL CAPS and highlighted)

7A CENTRAL

No. 1 BRYANT (7-0, 4-0) at No. 9 Cabot (2-5, 2-2) Bryant’s defense had 4 takeaways in the Hornets’ 42-6 win over Little Rock Southwest. QB Kyler Shelby had 1 incompletion and threw 3 TD passes in the first half. The 1 Arkansas Activities Association sportsmanship rule was in effect by half. Cabot recovered a PA fumble on its last drive to seal the deal. The road win keeps Cabot’s playoff hopes alive as Coach Scott Reed’s team continues to improve, but not enough to knock off top-ranked Bryant.

LR Central (2-5, 0-5) at No. 8 NORTH LITTLE ROCK (2-5, 1-3): LR Central could not hang with Conway a week ago, losing 52-7. Struggles on offense and special teams led to the Wampus Cats scoring two safeties and a defensive touchdown in the first half. Tigers have dropped 4 in a row after a 2-3 start. North Little Rock continues to improve for Brad Bolding, and it built a 30-14 lead over LR Christian before falling in overtime. The Charging Wildcats allowed LR Christian to make big plays and had the win taken away from them.

LR Southwest (0-7, 0-4) at No. 6 LR CHRISTIAN (5-2, 3-1): LR Southwest moves the ball with QB Derrick Vasser, but the Gryphons must clean up mistakes and avoid turnovers. Mario Maxwell scored on a 66-yard run last week against Bryant. The Gryphons have played LR Christian close in recent years. The Warriors, who have won 4 of their past 5, escaped NLR a week ago in a wild 37-36 OT win. LR Christian trailed NLR 30-14 late in the game, but Coach Duistin Grimmett and the guys found a way to win on the road.

No. 10 Pulaski Academy (2-5, 2-2) at No. 4 CONWAY (6-1, 4-0): Pulaski Academy fumbled on its final drive, losing to Cabot 42-35. The loss leaves the Bruins fighting to stay alive for postseason play. Conway went over to Central last week and dominated. The clock rolled in the second half as the Wampus Cats with a running clock in place after halftime because of the mercy rule. T

7A WEST

No. 2 Bentonville (7-0, 4-0)  at No. 3 ROGERS (7-0, 4-0). See Hootens.com Game of the Week above.

No. 7 FAYETTEVILLE (3-4, 1-3) at Springdale (3-4, 2-2) Fayetteville is looking for a victory to get back to .500 in 2025. The Purple Dogs couldn’t hang with No. 1 Bentonville a week ago, losing at home 48-14. Fayetteville has dropped 4 of its last 5 after a 2-0 start. Springdale could not keep up with Rogers last week as Rogers enjoyed a mercy-rule lead at halftime. Springdale’s Wilder Lherisse ran the football well, but Rogers was too much offensively.

Rogers Heritage (1-6, 1-3)  at No. 5 BENTONVILLE WEST (5-2, 3-1): Heritage squeaked out a 41-40 overtime victory a week ago over Northside. The War Eagles kept the Grizzlies from converting a 2- point play to win the game. Evan Gordon (nearly 100 yards) led Heritage in rushing. Bentonville West led Har-Ber 17-14 at halftime, then pulled away for a 41-14 win. The Wolverines defense made life difficult for the Wildcats, causing them to turn the ball over 4 times. VJ Warren  (200 yards, 2 TDs) led the West offense.

SPRINGDALE HAR-BER (2-5, 1-3) at Fort Smith Northside (0-7, 0-4) Har-Ber was right there at the half with Bentonville West last week, but the Wolverines won 41-14 after shutting out the Wildcats in the second half. Four Har-Ber turnovers turned out to be a decisive factor. QB Brice Owens and the Wildcats offense have shown that they can put together drives. Northside played its best game of the season in its loss to Heritage after failing to convert a 2–point conversion attempt in overtime. Northside’s Warren Bijou (25-375 rushing) put on an absolute show for the Grizzlies.
