HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK

2-3A (1) No. 1 SALEM (13-0) at 1-3A (1) No. 2 Mansfield (12-0) An undefeated semifinal showdown is on deck, a rematch of last year’s semifinal thriller won by Salem 38-20, paving the way for their 2024 3A state championship. Now Mansfield returns to the same stage amid a 12-0 season, highlighted by last week’s 50–21 victory over Bismarck.  Andrew Burton (30-303 rushing, 6 TDs; 3 tackles, 1 INT) was the offense, and the Tigers’ defense held the Bismarck Lions to 215 total yards. Mansfield is hungry to avenge last year’s loss, but don’t expect the defending champion Salem to give an inch. Salem punched its ticket with a 32–6 win over Osceola, continuing its playoff push behind standout performances from Kaden Brink (35-192 rushing, 4 TDs) and Jackson Taylor (7-31 rushing; 3-7 passing, 114 yards, 1 TD). The Greyhounds keep finding ways to win as they chase back-to-back titles. This matchup feels like a title matchup, but the winner will need to win again next week.

BOTTOM OF THE BRACKET

1-3A (3) No. 4 Booneville (9-4) at 8-3A (1) No. 3 FORDYCE (12-1): Booneville continues its scorching playoff run, with back-to-back upsets, a 41-13 win over Rivercrest, and a 40-14 victory against Glen Rose. The Bearcats looked unstoppable Friday night and now hit the road for a semifinal showdown at Fordyce. The Redbugs put up 28 points, exposing the Mayflower defense for the first time all season, in a quarterfinal win. The Redbugs have looked locked in since a midseason loss at Lakeside Lake Village, and enter this week undefeated at home and eager to defend their turf.
