Adams, Hill Score Twice as Sallisaw Tops Heritage

Senior quarterback Kase Adams and running back Kenyan Hill scored two touchdowns apiece Friday as Sallisaw (Okla.) defeated Heritage 28-7 at David Gates Stadium in Rogers.

Adams opened the scoring with a 20-yard keeper with 2:51 remaining in the first quarter. Chase Stephens’ interception had given the Black Diamonds possession at Heritage’s 37, setting up the touchdown.

Hill scored on an option play to the right with 10:54 left in the second quarter, then added a one-yard touchdown with 4:02 remaining. Christan Morales converted the extra points, giving Sallisaw a 21-0 halftime lead.

Heritage produced defensive stops before and after halftime. Brayan Guillen blocked a field-goal attempt on Sallisaw’s opening possession. Kahner Ketkeorasmy forced a fumble on a sack with 13 seconds left in the second quarter, and the War Eagles recovered.

Julien Castaneda connected with Camden Isbell on a second-quarter pass that moved Heritage to Sallisaw’s 26. The Black Diamonds later stopped a fourth-down quarterback run near their 20, with Cade Austin Tate and Daniel Rosales making the play.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. Jayden Cortez converted fourth-and-two during a Heritage possession that started near its goal line and reached Sallisaw’s 35. Devin Jakaitis tackled a receiver for a two-yard loss during the Black Diamonds’ first possession after halftime.

Adams scored from three yards out with 7:41 remaining, and Morales’ fourth extra point made it 28-0.

Jakaitis intercepted a pass on Sallisaw’s next possession and returned it into Black Diamonds territory. Sallisaw’s Asa Ulrich later intercepted a fourth-down throw.

Castaneda found Isbell down the right sideline for a 40-yard touchdown with 1:37 left. Ronald Vizuet added the extra point.

Sallisaw improved to 3-0. Heritage’s defense allowed seven second-half points, and the War Eagles enter their open week before beginning 7A West play at Springdale on September 25.
