Searcy 35, Greenbrier 28

GREENBRIER — Searcy erased a 14-point deficit, took its first lead on Wyatt Woodle’s blocked-punt return and protected it with a defensive stand in the final minute to beat Greenbrier 35–28 Friday night.

The Lions improved to 3–0 behind quarterback Jacob Miles, who threw three touchdown passes and scored on a 1-yard sneak. Greenbrier quarterback Easton Jutze threw four touchdown passes, two apiece to Trendon Moseley and Kaeden Cummings, as the Panthers moved to 2–1.

Greenbrier scored twice in the opening quarter. After recovering a muffed punt at Searcy’s 20, the Panthers converted fourth down when Jutze found Moseley in the end zone with 2:16 remaining. A fourth-down stop set up Jutze’s touchdown pass to Cummings with 17 seconds left, making it 14–0.

Woodle tackled Greyson Linville for a 5-yard loss after Greenbrier reached Searcy’s 26, and three consecutive incompletions gave Searcy possession on downs.

Searcy answered with two second-quarter touchdown catches by Jackson Smith. Miles escaped pressure and scrambled inside the 10 to set up the first. Bryson Thompson helped that possession with two receptions, including a third-down conversion.

Linebacker William Gaines then tackled Greenbrier’s punter after a mishandled snap, giving the Lions possession near the Panthers’ 25. Miles found Smith in the back corner of the end zone, and Micah Linderman’s kick tied it 14–14 with 3:15 before halftime.

Moseley restored Greenbrier’s lead with a 52-yard touchdown reception at the 1:33 mark. He also intercepted a pass on Searcy’s final possession of the half, preserving a 21–14 advantage.

Will Manning returned the second-half kickoff to Greenbrier’s 8. Two plays later, Miles scored from the 1, tying the game just 45 seconds into the third quarter.

Greenbrier answered on third-and-11. Jutze extended the play under pressure and connected downfield with Cummings, who worked his way into the end zone for a 28–21 lead with 9:56 left.

Searcy responded with a drive featuring a third-down run by Hunter Thompson and Miles’ fourth-and-2 conversion behind Thompson’s blocking. Manning finished the possession by catching Miles’ pass over a defender for the tying touchdown with 5:02 remaining in the third.

Special teams supplied the deciding score. Kayden Hickman blocked a punt, and Woodle scooped up the ball at the 25 and returned it for a touchdown with 10:10 left. Linderman added his fifth extra point for a 35–28 lead.

Gaines intercepted a pass on Greenbrier’s next possession and returned it to the Panthers’ 39. Greenbrier’s defense forced a punt, giving the Panthers another chance with 6:26 remaining.

Sophomore quarterback Tyler Hart directed the final drive, converting third-and-9 with a run to the 20 and carrying again inside the 15. Jeremiah Goodman stopped Hart in the backfield with 42 seconds left. Searcy broke up the next pass, then pressured Hart into an incomplete fourth-down throw toward Moseley in the end zone with 30 seconds remaining.
