Buckaroos Christen New Turf With 38-6 Victory

Smackover 38, McGehee 6
SMACKOVER — Smackover scored three first-quarter touchdowns, built a 32-point halftime lead and opened its home field with a 38-6 victory over McGehee on Friday.
The Buckaroos recovered the opening kickoff at the McGehee 22. Trason Parlor converted fourth down with a scramble, then scored on a 5-yard run for a 6-0 lead with 9:36 left in the first quarter.
Smackover’s defense stopped McGehee on fourth-and-3 near midfield, and the special teams produced the next touchdown. Derwin Goodwin recovered a dropped punt snap and returned it 3 yards, extending the lead to 12-0 at 3:42. After another McGehee punt, Kieundre Billingly took Smackover’s first snap 72 yards down the left sideline for an 18-0 advantage.
Parlor opened the second quarter with a 52-yard touchdown pass to Goodwin. McGehee answered with a long run from its 17 to the Smackover 40, but the drive ended with a punt. The Owls later broke another run before Smackover recovered a fumble.
With 3:51 remaining before halftime, Parlor found Braxton Bryant for a 17-yard touchdown and ran in the conversion, making it 32-0.
McGehee stopped Smackover on fourth down at the 3 early in the third quarter. The Buckaroos scored later after Bryant returned a punt to the McGehee 32. Parlor escaped pressure and covered all 32 yards for a touchdown.
The Owls completed a 45-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter, including a sideline reception to the 10 and a 10-yard wingback touchdown run.
Smackover totaled 428 yards. Parlor completed 12 of 15 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 79 yards. Goodwin caught four passes for 97 yards, Billingly rushed three times for 88 yards, and Bryant caught four passes for 48 yards. Carter Walker led the defense with seven tackles, five solo, and one hurry.
