Hampton 44, Hazen 16

HAZEN — Hampton leaned on big plays and a ball-hawking defense to beat Hazen 44–16 on Thursday in 2A‑4 play. Senior WR/DB Deondre Smith accounted for four touchdowns — three rushing and one receiving — and added three two-point runs. Senior QB/DB DJ Clarke directed the offense, throwing for 106 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 96 more. Sophomore FB/DL Dallas Jimerson capped the first drive of the second half with a one‑yard plunge, and senior WR/RB Aden Williams supplied 67 rushing yards. Freshman QB/LB Kypton Rowland added a fourth‑down strike, finding WR/DB Deshaun Collins for 21 yards to set up points.

Hampton’s defense tilted the night. Senior LB/RB Daren Norris set the tone at the second level and helped trigger five interceptions, with WR/DB Braiden Giraud, FB/LB Jayden Thomas, OL/DL Artavious Ballard and OL/DL Jace Madera each grabbing a pick. Hampton consistently pressured the pocket and flipped field position, helped by Smith’s 67‑yard kickoff return.

Hazen showed resolve and playmakers. CB/WR Jermaine Pinkney took snaps at quarterback and guided scoring drives in each half, finishing with a late keeper and conversion. WR/CB Ethan Lisko worked the perimeter to extend possessions, and LB Nathan Neil filled lanes. Despite the loss, Hazen’s defensive front forced negative plays and made Hampton earn short‑yardage conversions at the goal line.

With the win, Hampton tightened its grip near the top of 2A‑4. The Bulldogs return home next week for senior night. Hazen closes with a rivalry game against Carlisle, seeking momentum into November.
