Camden Fairview Rallies, Then Holds Off Lakeside at the Goal Line

CAMDEN — Camden Fairview took its first lead with 9:35 left Friday night, built an 11-point cushion and survived one final Lakeside drive to win 47-42 at Cardinal Stadium.

The Rams struck first for an 8-0 lead, but quarterback Brodie Dow answered with a touchdown run and a two-point conversion pass to tie it. Lakeside went back ahead 15-8 before a fumble recovery by Malachi Jackson gave the Cardinals another chance. Dow connected with Dayton Browning deep downfield, and Robinson finished the possession with a touchdown run to make it 15-15.

The teams kept trading scores in the second quarter. Dow found Thompson on fourth down for a touchdown that tied the game at 22. Lakeside answered with a screen pass touchdown, but Dow hit Browning for another score to pull Camden Fairview within 29-28. On the final play of the half, the Rams completed a pass for a touchdown and took a 36-28 lead into the break.

Camden Fairview’s defense steadied in the third quarter, and Dow found Browning in the end zone to cut the margin to 36-34. The Cardinals then moved ahead for the first time on Robinson’s short touchdown run early in the fourth. A failed two-point attempt left the score 40-36.

Robinson scored again with less than five minutes remaining, and Edwards kicked the extra point for a 47-36 lead. Lakeside answered with a touchdown pass at the 2:37 mark, but Jackson blocked the two-point pass, keeping Camden Fairview ahead by five.

The Rams recovered the ensuing onside kick and drove to first-and-goal at the Cardinals’ 9 with 29 seconds remaining. Camden Fairview forced an incompletion, drove the quarterback out of bounds for a loss and broke up another end-zone pass. A penalty pushed Lakeside farther back before the Cardinals stopped its final attempt and took a knee.
