Camdenton Holds Off Heritage’s Furious Fourth-Quarter Rally

ROGERS — Camdenton built a 30-point fourth-quarter lead, then withstood a remarkable Rogers Heritage comeback Friday night at David Gates Stadium.
Heritage struck first when Ronald Vizuet kicked a 30-yard field goal. Camdenton answered in the second quarter with Quenton Krewson’s 74-yard touchdown run, but Olajuwan Smith powered in from 2 yards to return the lead to the War Eagles, 9-7.
Michael Maschino’s touchdown pass to Chase Herron sent the Lakers to halftime ahead 13-9. Smith already had 102 rushing yards on eight carries for Heritage.
Camdenton took command after intermission. Maschino threw a short touchdown pass to Cole Ginnings, then scored on a 2-yard keeper after the Lakers recovered a kickoff. Julien Castaneda’s 7-yard touchdown run and Jayden Cortez’s conversion brought Heritage within 27-17 entering the fourth quarter.
Levi Purk’s interception set up Caleb Bull’s 42-yard touchdown run, and Brody Reese returned another interception 27 yards for a score. Davvin Moore’s 9-yard touchdown pushed Camdenton ahead 47-17 with 4:31 remaining.
Heritage answered with 23 consecutive points. Sophomore Gavin Dozier broke an approximately 75-yard touchdown run, Cortez scored from 5 yards, and Jack Presley found Camden Isbell for an 11-yard touchdown. Heritage also recovered an onside kick during the surge.
Vizuet’s extra point cut the deficit to 47-40 with 1:12 left, but Camdenton secured the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.
Maschino finished with 172 passing yards, two touchdown passes and 52 rushing yards. Krewson rushed for 90 yards, Bull added 81, and Dozier surpassed 120 rushing yards for Heritage.
