GAME OF THE WEEK
Class 3A SMACKOVER (2-0) at No. 2 Junction City (2-0)
This is a traditional rivalry game, and the teams have sometimes been in the same conference when Junction City moved back up to Class 3A. The Dragons moved back to Class 2A last season.
Smackover is coming off a 63-28 win over Fountain Lake. QB Mitchell Polk accounted for 9 touchdowns (305 passing, 6 TDs; 9-136 rushing, 3 TDs) Juice Robinson caught 9 passes for 174 yards and 4 TDs. He also intercepted a pass on defense.
Junction City edged Mount Ida 16-14 last week at OBU. QB Dakorey Larry passed for 43 yards and a TD, rushed for 50 yards and scored a 2-point conversion. Larry also returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown.
This game could be a battle between two of the best QBs in the smaller classifications in Larry and Polk.
“We are expecting a heavyweight fight,” Junction City Coach Devin Ball says. “The Battle for 92. The Bucks are extremely talented. They’ll be the most explosive offense we see for the remainder of the season.”
Ball says Junction City will be holding a Wall of Honor ceremony at halftime, honoring some of the top Dragons players of the past.
“The energy will be electric, and the intensity will be through the roof,” Ball says. “I can’t wait to watch our kids play.”
