CLASS 2A GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 5 Des Arc (2-0) at No. 4 CARLISLE (2-0)
The Des Arc Eagles are off to a running start under first-year coach Nick Smith, son of Spring Hill coach Greg Smith. The Eagles continue to utilize a power running game behind the play of QB Hudson Goodman and RB Kaibrien Buchanan, who have both rushed for more than 200 yards in 2 games. Smith expresses high regard for Carlisle Coach Gary Wilson, but he is not backing down. “We think we’re a good football team, too,” Smith says. “It’s a great test for both teams early in the year to see where we’re at.”
The Bison are also 2-0 behind the play of new QB Baylor Hauk, who took over after the previous QB transferred out of the district and is no longer playing football. Hauk has passed for 415 yards and 6 TDs in 2 games.
Carlisle’s Wilson says his team must eliminate pre-snap penalties.
“When we’ve done that, we can get rolling,” Wilson says. “If we eliminate those, we’ve got a pretty good shot at being successful on offense.”
