No. 7 HS LAKESIDE (7-2, 5-1) at No. 4 Hot Springs (7-1, 6-0): The City Bowl winner gets at least a share of the 5A South title (Hot Springs can win it outright).

HS Lakeside has won 17 of the past 24 City Bowls. The Rams cost themselves a chance to win the outright title with last week’s 24-22 loss to Little Rock Parkview, but they can still share the title with a victory. Senior quarterback Wally Wolcott passed for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns against LR Parkview, and junior Peter Ohman had his best game (17-106-1 rushing, 2-37-1 receiving) until getting injured on the final drive. Senior Drew Morgan caught 5 passes for 68 yards and 1 TD. Senior Cannon Martin made 14 tackles, and Deklan McKinney made 13 stops.

 Hot Springs goes for its first conference title since 2014. The Trojans led Camden Fairview 21-7 in the second half last week before pulling away 42-21. Senior QB Sedrick Allen passed for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns, and ran for 90 yards and 2 TDs. Sophomore standout receiver Gabe Jamie led the Trojans with 5 catches for 99 yards and 1 TD. Seniors Demond Hicks and Jayden Meadows each registered 13 tackles.

5A CENTRAL

No.10 Maumelle (6-3, 5-1) at No. 1 JOE T. ROBINSON (9-0, 6-0) (Thurs.): Joe T. Robinson (7 conference championships in the past 8 years) has at least a share of the league title, while Maumelle needs a win to share the title. Joe T. Robinson finishes as either the No. 1 or 2 seed, while Maumelle could drop to the No. 3 seed with a loss. Joe T. Robinson junior QB Reece Simpson passed for 102 yards and 3 TDs in last week’s 35-0 win over Pine Bluff, and workhorse RB Kevin Williams ran for 150 yards and 2 TDs. Senior Damon Salley led the defense with 11 tackles. Maumelle fumbled at the 10-yard line in the final 2 minutes of last week’s 47-40 setback to Searcy. Jacob Henry ran for 110 yards, and Levi Warrior passed for 261 yards and 3 TDs.

No. 5 SEARCY (8-1, 5-1) at Beebe (6-3, 4-2) (Thurs.): Searcy finishes as the No. 2 seed with a win, but could drop to the No. 4 seed with a loss and Maumelle victory. The Lions erased a fourth-quarter deficit last week to beat Maumelle 47-40. Sophomore QB Jacob Miles (24-35-321 passing, 2 TD runs) sparked the win; Jackson Smith (13-168) and Will Manning (5-70) were the top Searcy receivers. Kobe White ran for 66 yards and 2 TDs in the second half. Beebe is in the playoffs and can finish as either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed. Beebe senior RB Curtis Goodrich was an all-state RB last year at Searcy, before transferring to Beebe in January. Goodrich ran for 164 yards and 1 TD in last week’s 44-22 win over Watson Chapel. Kameron Johnson caught 4 passes for 127 yards and 2 TDs against Watson Chapel, and Demarco Moore caught a TD from senior QB Ty McCormick (7-14-174 passing, 3 TDs). Beebe’s defense forced 3 Watson Chapel turnovers.

Watson Chapel (0-9, 0-6) at No. 19 JACKSONVILLE (3-6, 1-5) (Thurs.): Neither team makes the playoffs, but both have shown improvement. Jacksonville junior Mason Ball ran 18 times for 201 yards and 3 TDs in last week’s 49-8 win over White Hall. Titans Coach Reggie Swinton praises his offensive line (David Rhoden, Jaiden Walter, Trenton Dunbar, Breon Hammonds, Kaden Islam and Christian Johnson). Watson Chapel senior Nicholas Baker turned a bad snap on a punt into a TD run in last week’s 22-point loss to Beebe. QB Malachi Rayford threw a 57-yard TD pass to Kameron Kennedy.

PINE BLUFF (2-7, 2-4) at White Hall (1-8, 1-5) (Thurs.): Neither team can make the playoffs. Xavier Wallace ran 13 yards for White Hall’s only TD in last week’s 41-point loss to Jacksonville. Pine Bluff trailed Joe T. Robinson 14-0 in the third quarter last week before losing 35-0. The Zebras never got closer than the 39-yard line.

 5A EAST

No. 18 Batesville (4-5, 4-2) at No. 8 VALLEY VIEW (8-1, 6-0): Valley View is the No. 1 seed no matter the outcome of this game after beating Nettleton last week 21-14. Carter Wallace led the Blazers (25-115 rushing, TD), and Barrett Mallett rushed for 66 yards and 1 TD. Silas Thomas led the defense with 6 tackles (including 3 TFL) and 1 forced fumble, and Avion Jones made 3 stops and intercepted 2 passes. Batesville has won 3 consecutive games and is likely the No. 4 seed but could gain the No. 3 seed with a win and a Harding Academy loss. The Pioneers beat Greene County Tech 28-27 last week. Senior QB Cole Bentz passed for 248 yards and 2 TDs and ran for 1 TD, while Xavier Pierce caught 9 passes for 155 yards and 3 TDs and ran for 1 TD. Junior MLB Rourke Sevier, the state’s leading tackler, made 16 stops.

No. 14 HARDING ACADEMY (5-4, 4-2) at Brookland (2-7, 2-4): Harding Academy is the No. 3 seed with a win or Batesville loss, and Harding Academy would travel to Farmington in the first round. Wildcats QB Krews Wray threw 2 TD passes and ran for 1 TD in last week’s 34-9 victory over Wynne. Senior Kam Pryor caught 4 passes for 88 yards and 1 TD and ran for 46 yards and 1 TD. Brookland senior QB/RB Gabe Carter (33-112 rushing, 58 passing yards, and scored 3 TDs in last week’s 21-6 win at Paragould. Sophomore Elijah Hammon ran for 104 yards.

No. 13 NETTLETON (6-3, 5-1) at Wynne (3-6, 2-4): Nettleton is the East’s No. 2 seed, but Wynne misses the playoffs after last week’s 25-point loss at Harding Academy. Nettleton junior RB Xavier Harrell and receiver Jeremiah Jackson played well in a 7-point loss to Valley View. Linebackers Damin Coleman and Darius McCuiston have been Nettleton’s top defensive playmakers.

Paragould (3-6, 0-6) at GREENE CO. TECH (1-8, 1-5): The winner of this game gets the Bell Trophy. Greene County Tech lost to Batesville 28-27 last week, despite Ashton Addison’s effort (36 carries, 263 yards, 2 TDs). Paragould’s Reid Phillips ran 13 times for 56 yards, and Austin Burdin caught 2 passes for 51 yards in last week’s 21-6 loss to Brookland. Josh Ward and Rayton Ysawa each made 10 tackles.

 5A SOUTH

No. 11 Camden Fairview (5-4, 4-2) at No. 6 LR PARKVIEW (6-3, 5-1) (Thurs.): Both teams are in the playoffs. Camden Fairview finishes anywhere between the No. 2 and No. 4 seed; LR Parkview can finish anywhere between the No. 1 and No. 3 seed. LR Parkview won 3 consecutive conference championships (hadn’t won a league title since 1984 before the past 3). LR Parkview beat HS Lakeside 24-22 last week. The Patriots built a 21-7 halftime advantage, then won with freshman Kaden Hernandez‘s 25-yard field goal in the middle of the fourth quarter. Offensive lineman Rae Parsons and WR/DB Kyrick Fulks played well, Coach Bobby Bolding says.

TEXARKANA (1-8, 1-5) at De Queen (3-6, 1-5) (Thurs.): Texarkana broke a 10-game losing streak with last week’s 57-10 win over Hope. RB Zephaniah Black (19-247 rushing, school-record 6 TDs) and Bralen Thompson (3-101 receiving, 101 yards, TD) were the top contributors. De Queen has lost 5 consecutive games since beating Hope 56-25 in Week 4. Landon Wise ran for 213 yards and 3 TDs in last week’s 52-30 loss at Magnolia.

No. 7 HS LAKESIDE (7-2, 5-1) at No. 4 Hot Springs (7-1, 6-0): See Hootens.com Game of the Week, above.

MAGNOLIA (4-5, 2-4) at Hope (1-8, 0-6): Magnolia won’t make the playoffs after losing by 2 points in consecutive losses to Camden Fairview and Hot Springs. The Panthers led De Queen 36-6 in the second quarter last week before winning 52-30. Junior Jamaijha Marshall (11-204 rushing, 4 TDs) led the offense.  Hope has lost 20 consecutive conference games.  

5A WEST

No. 20 Vilonia (3-6, 2-4) at No. 2 GREENBRIER (9-0, 6-0): The battle for the Judge’s Cup is for pride this season. Greenbrier has sewn up a share of the league title and No. 1 playoff seed; Vilonia will miss the playoffs after losing its past 4 games. The Eagles committed 5 turnovers in last week’s 42-14 loss to Morrilton. Greenbrier led Harrison 35-7 at halftime before winning 49-20. Senior QB Jack Palmer (226 passing, 2 TDs) and WR Salter Mahan (6-136 receiving, 2 TDs) led the passing attack. Senior Enoch Assan ran for 131 yards and 3 TDs. Safety Ethan Rhodes made 8 tackles and returned a fumble 75 yards for a TD; CB TyRae Kemp made 5 tackles and returned an interception 99 yards for a TD.

No. 17 Alma (4-5, 3-3) at No. 3 FARMINGTON (7-2, 5-1): Farmington finishes as the No. 2 seed behind Greenbrier. Farmington beat Clarksville 56-0 a week ago. QB Ayden Lester (7-7 passing, 109 passing yards, 2 TDs) and Brenner Watkins (57 rushing, TD; 2-60 receiving, TD) sparked the offense. Wiley Stolz (11 tackles, including 2 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) led the defensive effort. Alma needs a win and a Harrison loss to make the playoffs. The Airedales beat Pea Ridge 35-20 last week. Senior Samuel Schlegel was Alma’s top playmaker (8-40-3 TDs rushing, 7-163 receiving). Sophomore Dallas Perkins ran 20 times for 100 yards.

Clarksville (1-8, 0-6) at No. 9 MORRILTON (7-2, 4-2): Morrilton is the No. 3 seed, no matter the outcome of this game after beating Vilonia last week 42-14. Senior QB Maddox Berry passed for 164 yards and 4 TDs. Champ McNabb (6-73-2), Jamarcus Sandidge (6-59-1) and Dante Cox (3-25-1) were Morrilton’s top receivers. The Devil Dogs intercepted 5 passes. Clarksville has scored 6 points in the past 3 games.

No. 12 HARRISON (4-5, 3-3) at Pea Ridge (1-8, 1-5): Harrison finishes as the No. 4 seed with a win or an Alma loss. Harrison Coach Chris Keylon says the Goblins played their best game of the season last week, despite losing to Greenbrier by 29 points. The offensive line played well, along with inside linebacker Ty Bundy (9 tackles, 1 INT. return for TD) and outside linebacker Eli McNutt (8 tackles, 1.5 sacks). Pea Ridge allowed 456 yards in last week’s 35-20 loss to Alma.
