HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK

No. 3 Mills (8-1, 5-1) at No. 7 LR PARKVIEW (6-3, 4-2):

Mills can secure the 5A Central’s No. 2 seed Thursday, but Parkview has enough offensive firepower to complicate that plan. The Comets have won 4 in a row since losing to Joe T. Robinson; the Patriots have scored at least 45 points in 4 consecutive games. Parkview’s 2 conference losses came against Jacksonville and Robinson by a combined 5 points. Mills erased a 13-point deficit at Jacksonville last week and won 37-34 on a late 32-yard field goal. Kenneth Gilcreast threw 2 touchdown passes, Alan Hall returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and Roosevelt Eaton scored on an interception return. Christopher Oliver recovered a backward-pass fumble to stop a fourth-quarter Jacksonville threat. Zamarion McDonald later scored the touchdown that gave Mills its first lead. Parkview beat Vilonia 45-21 last week, and its running game can create another demanding assignment for Mills: Sadiq Goji rushed for 81 yards and 3 touchdowns on 4 first-half carries against Maumelle on Oct. 8, while Elijah Moody added 2 first-half rushing scores. Parkview must protect the ball and cover kicks; Mills has repeatedly turned those situations into points. The Comets must keep Parkview from controlling early downs and forcing their offense into another high-scoring comeback. The Patriots’ sustained scoring and its home-field advantage provide the narrow edge.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Both have clinched. Mills wins the No. 2 seed with a victory. A Parkview win puts the Patriots second if Jacksonville loses to Beebe. Wins by Parkview and Jacksonville create a three-way tie at 5-2, requiring capped-margin and head-to-head tiebreakers for seeds 2-4. Robinson already owns No. 1, regardless of its result at Maumelle.

5A EAST

No. 19 Valley View (4-5, 2-4) at No. 15 BATESVILLE (6-3, 4-2): Batesville secured a playoff berth with a 21-0 victory at Greene County Tech, combining its first shutout of the season with a productive running game. Gabe Bledsoe rushed 18 times for 127 yards, and Kendall Johnson added 66 yards and a touchdown on 2 carries. Hayes Kibe completed 9 of 16 passes for 113 yards and a score. Valley View’s defense gave the Blazers a chance against Nettleton, but the offense could not produce points in a 6-0 defeat. Batesville must resist forcing throws against that improving defense. Its ability to move the chains on the ground gives the Pioneers the advantage.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Batesville has clinched a berth; its seed still depends on Friday’s results and potential tiebreakers. Valley View is eliminated.

Brookland (4-5, 2-4) at No. 8 HARDING ACADEMY (5-4, 5-1): Harding Academy is 1 win from the East’s top seed after a 22-14 comeback at Wynne. The Wildcats trailed 14-6 entering the fourth quarter, then scored 16 unanswered points to win their third in a row. Brookland survived a different sort of finish, edging Paragould 48-45 with a 90-yard kickoff-return touchdown from Nick Bates among its explosive plays. The Bearcats need those field-position swings again, but can’t expect to win if the defense allows 45 points again. Harding Academy has scored 125 points during its winning streak. Its ability to finish the Wynne game on both sides of the ball makes the Wildcats the clear choice at home.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Harding Academy clinches the No. 1 seed with a win; a loss leaves it second or third. Brookland is eliminated.

Greene County Tech (3-6, 1-5) at PARAGOULD (2-7, 0-6): Paragould has another chance to turn competitive offense into a conference victory after a 48-45 loss at Brookland. That followed an 8-point loss to Wynne, so the Rams have remained dangerous despite their 0-6 conference record. Zack Flowers threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Tucker Jackson and also scored on the ground against Wynne on Oct. 23. Greene County Tech has scored 12 points in its past 3 games and is coming off a 21-0 loss to Batesville. Tech needs sustained drives to keep this from becoming another high-possession game. Paragould’s recent scoring production gives it the edge at home.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Both teams are eliminated. Paragould is seeking its first conference victory; Tech is trying to finish with its second.

No. 13 WYNNE (6-3, 5-1) at No. 18 Nettleton (6-3, 5-1): Wynne must recover from allowing 16 unanswered fourth-quarter points in a 22-14 loss to Harding Academy. Ashton McDaniel passed for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards; Kaden Dixon caught 3 passes for 112 yards and 2 scores. Nettleton won a defensive struggle at Valley View, scoring the only touchdown in the fourth quarter of a 6-0 victory. Kevin Sanders rushed 16 times for 77 yards and a TD. The Raiders need another patient, low-mistake performance; Wynne has been more productive against their common East opponents, and McDaniel’s ability to threaten the defense in multiple ways gives the Yellowjackets the narrow road edge.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: The winner is a No. 1 seed if Harding Academy loses; otherwise No. 2. Wynne would be third with a loss; Nettleton could be third or fourth.

5A CENTRAL

Beebe (1-8, 1-5) at No. 6 JACKSONVILLE (7-2, 4-2): Jacksonville must put a frustrating finish behind it after surrendering a late field goal in a 37-34 loss to Mills. Mason Ball rushed for 221 yards and 3 touchdowns, raising his season total to 1,574 rushing yards to break the school record of 1,401 he set last year. Ball has 27 total touchdowns, including 25 rushing, and 1,782 all-purpose yards through 9 games: 1,574 rushing, 93 receiving and 115 on kickoff returns. Jakobe Boone returned a kickoff for a score, and Brett Wynne supplied another rushing touchdown against Mills. Beebe has scored 10 points in consecutive losses to Parkview and Robinson; Jace Ruiz supplied Beebe’s only points against the Senators with a field goal. The Badgers need to protect the ball and shorten the game. Jacksonville’s running game gives the Titans a decisive advantage if they clean up the mistakes that allowed Mills to score on kickoff and interception returns.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Jacksonville has clinched a playoff spot and can finish second, third or fourth. A Jacksonville win, plus a Mills win, makes the Titans third; a Jacksonville win plus a Parkview win creates a 3-team seeding tie. Beebe is already eliminated.

No. 1 JOE T. ROBINSON (9-0, 6-0) at Maumelle (2-7, 1-5): Robinson is the Central champion and now tries to complete an unbeaten regular season. Reece Simpson threw 4 first-half touchdown passes in the Senators’ 56-3 win at Beebe; Braylyn Brown caught 3 of them, and Dallas Bledsoe added 2 rushing scores. Maumelle showed more resistance last week, building a 14-0 halftime lead before Greenbrier rallied to win 35-21. Levi Warrior threw a 20-yard fourth-quarter touchdown pass to pull the Hornets within 7, but they could not get the needed stop. Robinson can threaten the Hornets on the ground and through the air. Maumelle must avoid turnovers and force long drives to keep the margin manageable.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Robinson has clinched the No. 1 seed regardless of this result. Maumelle is eliminated.

No. 17 GREENBRIER (4-5, 2-4) at Vilonia (2-7, 1-5): Greenbrier found the response it needed at Maumelle, scoring 35 second-half points to erase a 14-0 deficit. Cayden Adams ran for 2 touchdowns, while Ashyr Crow scored on a run and a reception and made a third-down tackle for loss. Tyler Hart contributed both a rushing touchdown and the clinching touchdown pass. Vilonia has lost 4 in a row, most recently 45-21 to Parkview, but its offense challenged Mills the previous week behind 3 Cooper Hanson rushing touchdowns. Greenbrier cannot afford another scoreless first half against a rival with nothing to save for next week. The Panthers’ revived ground game gives them the slight advantage.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Both teams are eliminated. Greenbrier can finish 5-5 overall; Vilonia is trying to end its losing streak.

No. 3 Mills (8-1, 5-1) at No. 7 LR PARKVIEW (6-3, 4-2). See Hootens.com Game of the Week.

5A SOUTH

De Queen (1-8, 0-6) at No. 10 ARKANSAS HIGH (5-4, 4-2): Arkansas High returns home after surviving Pine Bluff 63-62 in double overtime. Tony Noble rushed for 200 yards and 4 touchdowns and added a TD catch; Bralon Thompson caught 10 passes for 121 yards and 3 scores. CJ Cleveland threw 4 touchdown passes, including the winning 3-yard completion to Thompson. That combination will give De Queen multiple problems after its 47-17 loss to Magnolia. The Leopards have shown they can keep games close, losing by 3 at Hot Springs and 4 at Camden Fairview, but have surrendered 89 points in their past 2 games. Arkansas High’s balanced offense and renewed confidence make the Razorbacks a strong choice.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Arkansas High has clinched a berth and owns the head-to-head advantage over Pine Bluff. If the 2 conference leaders and both 4-2 teams win, Arkansas High is the No. 3 seed. De Queen is eliminated.

White Hall (3-6, 3-3) at No. 12 CAMDEN FAIRVIEW (6-3, 5-1): Camden Fairview rebounded from a loss to Pine Bluff with a 49-14 victory at Hot Springs and now controls the South’s top playoff seed. White Hall brings a passing game that can make this uncomfortable: Dylan Mitchell threw for 424 yards and 3 touchdowns against Lakeside, and Kel McEntire caught 15 passes for 167 yards. White Hall lost 58-37, its second consecutive game allowing at least 41 points. Fairview must prevent those completions from becoming quick scores while keeping its offense on schedule. The Cardinals’ home field, stronger conference record and opportunity to secure the top seed give them the edge.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Camden Fairview clinches the No. 1 seed with a win because it beat Lakeside head-to-head. A loss leaves its seed dependent on the other contenders. White Hall is eliminated: It can’t catch the two 5-1 teams and loses the relevant head-to-head comparisons with Arkansas High and Pine Bluff.

No. 11 PINE BLUFF (5-4, 4-2) at Magnolia (1-8, 1-5): Pine Bluff must recover emotionally and defensively after its 63-62 double-overtime loss to Arkansas High. The Zebras erased a 21-point fourth-quarter deficit, with Jamar Morrow finishing with 422 passing yards and 7 touchdowns. Morrow and Darrick Dunn (11-250 receiving, 6 TDs) are 2 reasons why Pine Bluff remains dangerous despite the loss. Magnolia got its first win, beating De Queen 47-17 after 3 consecutive defeats by 4 points or fewer. The Panthers have enough offense to test a defense that just allowed 63 points, but containing the Morrow-Dunn connection is the bigger challenge.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Pine Bluff has clinched a playoff berth. If Camden Fairview, Lakeside, Arkansas High and Pine Bluff all win, the Zebras are fourth because Arkansas High holds the head-to-head advantage. Other results can improve that seed; Magnolia is eliminated.

Hot Springs (2-7, 2-4) at No. 5 HS LAKESIDE (7-2, 5-1): Lakeside carries a 5-game winning streak into this rivalry game after beating White Hall 58-37. The Rams’ 3-pronged rushing attack produced 430 combined yards and 7 touchdowns: QB James Hall gained 136 yards and scored twice, Peter Ohman rushed for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Rahshaamon “Rashee” Moore added 124 yards and 2 scores. That production lets Lakeside attack inside and outside without depending on one ball carrier. Hot Springs has allowed 101 combined points in consecutive losses to Arkansas High and Camden Fairview. The Trojans need sustained possessions and early defensive stops to stay competitive. Lakeside’s ground game and championship opportunity make the Rams the choice.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Lakeside has clinched a berth. A win guarantees it at least a share of the conference championship and a top-2 seed. Lakeside is No. 1 with a win and a Camden Fairview loss; if both win, Fairview is No. 1 and Lakeside No. 2. Hot Springs is eliminated.

5A WEST

No. 9 Alma (6-3, 4-2) at No. 2 GREENWOOD (7-2, 6-0): Greenwood has won 7 in a row and has outscored 6 conference opponents 306–51. Cruz Coatney completed 14 of 14 first-half passing attempts, including 5 for touchdowns, in last week’s 58–0 win over Clarksville. Ty Holt caught two 16-yard scoring passes, and Aysen Dawson opened the second half with an 80-yard kickoff-return touchdown. Alma brings a 3-game winning streak after beating Harrison 32–26. Hudson Loughridge caught 9 passes for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns 2 weeks ago against Morrilton. The Airedales must sustain drives and limit Greenwood’s explosive scoring opportunities. The Bulldogs’ passing efficiency and defensive consistency make them a substantial home favorite.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Greenwood has clinched the West’s No. 1 seed; Alma has clinched No. 3. Greenwood owns the head-to-head over Farmington, while Alma owns the head-to-head over both Harrison and Morrilton. Neither team’s seed changes with this result.

DARDANELLE (2-7, 1-5) at Clarksville (0-9, 0-6): Dardanelle lost 42–0 to Farmington, and Clarksville fell 58–0 at Greenwood last week. The Sand Lizards have lost 5 in a row, but their offense has shown considerably more scoring potential. In the Oct. 23 loss to Harrison, CJ Cursh threw for 69 yards and ran for 58; Brayden Mans caught 2 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Clarksville has scored 25 points in 6 conference games and only 2 points in its past 2 outings. The Panthers need sustained possessions and defensive stops to avoid chasing another large deficit. Dardanelle’s offensive ceiling gives it the edge.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Both teams are eliminated. Dardanelle can finish 2-5 in conference play; Clarksville is seeking its first win.

No. 4 FARMINGTON (8-1, 5-1) at No. 20 Pea Ridge (3-6, 2-4): Farmington has outscored Clarksville and Dardanelle by a combined 80-2 after suffering its lone loss to Greenwood. Pea Ridge has lost 3 in a row, getting outscored 136-34. The Blackhawks managed 1 touchdown in last week’s loss to Morrilton: Hudson White hit Rhett Hargiss for a 14-yard score after Keegan Perryman intercepted a pass. Pea Ridge needs more sustained offense rather than relying on takeaways to create scoring chances. Farmington has scored at least 38 points in 4 of its past 5 games, and its recent defensive results reinforce the Cardinals’ clear advantage.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Farmington has clinched the No. 2 seed: It can’t overtake Greenwood but owns the head-to-head over Alma. Pea Ridge is eliminated; the Morrilton-Harrison winner will have 4 conference wins, beyond Pea Ridge’s maximum of 3.

No. 14 Morrilton (6-3, 3-3) at No. 16 HARRISON (5-4, 3-3): The West’s final playoff berth comes down to this game. Morrilton beat Pea Ridge 28–6 behind Maddox Turnipseed (10-16-183 passing, 2 TDs). Ja’Kobe Chambers added 105 passing yards and a touchdown; Champ McNabb caught 4 passes for 76 yards and a score and intercepted 2 passes. Harrison’s 3-game winning streak ended with a 32–26 loss at Alma, but the Goblins have scored 197 points over their past 4 games. Morrilton must prevent another fast-paced scoring contest; Harrison must protect the ball against ball-hawking McNabb and a stout Morillton defense. Home field earns Harrison a narrow nod.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: The winner takes the No. 4 seed; the loser is eliminated. Alma is already above both teams through its head-to-head victories, and Pea Ridge cannot reach 4 conference wins.
