No. 3 Greenbrier (1-0) at 6A VAN BUREN (2-0): This will be a good road test to see where Greenbrier is as a football team. Greenbrier looked dominant on both sides of the ball in its Week 0 win over Hot Springs. But with Hot Springs losing again in Week 1, it’s difficult to tell how good that win was. The Panthers are well coached and seem to have the talent to make a run in 5A. Van Buren beat 7A Springdale last week by a touchdown. The Pointers are averaging 36 points per game.

5A CENTRAL

OPEN No. 1 Joe T. Robinson (2-0)

4A Lonoke (1-1) at No. 6 LR PARKVIEW (1-1): Parkview suffered a 17-point loss to a very good 7A team, North Little Rock, last Friday. The Patriots are still loaded with talent and will get back on track this week with solid defense and a pounding ground attack.

NR Maumelle (0-2) at No. 17 HOT SPRINGS (0-2): Both teams have struggled to start the year. Hot Springs has been outscored 74-20 in its 2 games and Maumelle has been outscored 82-24. Hootens.com gives the edge to the home team, Hot Springs. 

No. 9 Jacksonville (2-0) at 6A LAKE HAMILTON (1-1): Jacksonville was explosive Thursday night in its 28-point win over 4A Southside. The Red Devils controlled the game with big plays on offense and stuffed the run on defense. They will need to clean up on pre-snap and post-snap penalties if they expect to beat 6A Lake Hamilton. 

4A Monticello (1-1) at NR MILLS (1-0): Mills looked explosive in its Week 0 win vs. Osceola, and they’ve had an extra week to prepare for Monticello.

No. 18 BATESVILLE (1-1) at NR Beebe (0-2): Beebe is struggling to find its identity on both sides of the ball; Batesville beat Class 3A Newport 16-13. Hootens.com is picking the Pioneers on the road. 

No. 16 Vilonia (1-1) at No. 15 ALMA (1-1): Alma won at 6A Russellville last week, with QB Jay Lemieux (286 passing, 4 TDs) and RB Dallas Perkins (38-250 rushing, 4 TDs) leading the way. Vilonia lost to No. 8 Morrilton last week after opening with a road win at Nettleton. Look for Alma to continue the balanced offensive attack this week at home. 

5A EAST

No. 10 Valley View (1-1) at 6A JONESBORO (2-0): First-half miscues took Valley View out of a game that could have been much closer with 6A Searcy last week. Jonesboro’s run defense looked vulnerable in its 3-point win over Lakeside. If the Blazers can slow the game and move the sticks on the ground, they just might open some plays downfield to keep this close in the fourth quarter, but Jonesboro’s size and skill looks to be too much in the end.

NR NETTLETON (0-2) at 4A Blytheville (0-1): Nettleton is averaging almost 30 points per game in its 0-2 start. Blytheville struggled on offense.

No. 8 MORRILTON (2-0) at No. 13 Harding Academy (0-2): Morrilton exits a 35–14 victory at No. 16 Vilonia, led by Davion Johnson (12-152 rushing, 3 TDs). Johnson also scored twice in the season-opening 35–13 win over Russellville, giving him 5 rushing touchdowns in 2 games. 

No. 11 WYNNE (1-1) at 6A West Memphis (0-2): Wynne QB Ashton McDaniel did not play in last week’s shutout loss to Forest City. Sophomore free safety Carson Stovall continues to shut down drives, forcing turnovers. McDaniel’s availability could be the key here.

NR Brookland (0-1) at 4A POCAHONTAS (1-0): Brookland’s offense got going in the 2nd half in its opening game vs. Southside. Will that offense stay hot after the open date? Pocahontas played a complete game in its road win vs Salem.

4A RIVERCREST (1-0) at NR Paragould (1-0): Paragould returns from an open date after a 45–21 victory over Manila. Quarterback Zack Flowers rushed for 3 touchdowns; Alex Luke scored twice — returning the opening kickoff 83 yards for a TD and returning an interception 82 yards for another score. Paragould has shown it can score in all phases. Rivercrest QB Jayden Ralph had a standout performance in the opener.

No. 20 GREENE CO. TECH (2-0) vs 4A Highland (1-0): Greene County Tech is 2–0 after beating Salem 31–6 and Beebe 40–7. The Golden Eagles have outscored their first two opponents 71–13. Senior running back Ashton Addison, a 1,300-yard rusher  last season, is one of the key pieces to this year’s early success. Highland enters this game 1-0 after beating Heber Springs 50-49. Tech’s rushing attack looks to be too much this week. Hootens.com is picking the Golden Eagles at home. 

5A SOUTH 

NR Maumelle (0-2) at No. 17 HOT SPRINGS (0-2). See notes above.

No. 7 CAMDEN FAIRVIEW (1-1) at 4A Hamburg (2-0): Camden Fairview beat 4A Arkadelphia 40–18 before losing 22–6 at 6A El Dorado. The Cardinals now face a Hamburg team that has defeated Dumas and White Hall. Hamburg defeated Dumas in its opener, led by quarterback Kaeden Thomas (276 total yards; 4 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD), Alijah Richardson (136 rushing) and Jade Canley (4-127 receiving, 2 TDs). What to watch for: Camden Fairview’s defense against Hamburg’s balanced offense. The Cardinals have already played 2 quality opponents, and they get the nod.

No. 5 HS Lakeside (1-1) at 6A No. 1 BENTON (1-0): Lakeside beating Lake Hamilton 28–24 in its opener before falling at Jonesboro 31–28 in overtime. Running back Peter Ohman rushed for almost 230 yards and 4 touchdowns against Lake Hamilton in the opener and looked just as dominant vs Jonesboro. Benton was open last week after its memorable 43–42 road victory over rival Bryant. QB Chase Cobb  (23-40-279 passing, 5 TDs) led the offense, and Brenden Murdock totaled 186 yards from scrimmage and caught 3 fourth-quarter touchdown passes. The matchup to watch: Ohman and Lakeside’s rushing attack against a Benton team capable of scoring quickly through the passing game. Lakeside can shorten the game with sustained drives, while Benton showed against Bryant that it can overcome a large deficit with explosive offensive possessions. 

OPEN No. 19 Magnolia 

No. 14 Arkansas High (0-1) at 4A NASHVILLE (2-0): Arkansas High goes back on the road after facing Atlanta, Texas. Nashville (99 points in 2 games) is undefeated after beating Magnolia 50-28 last week. The Scrappers have shown they can make explosive plays both on the ground and through the air. Arkansas High will need to sustain drives and limit Nashville’s possessions. 

NR Pine Bluff (1-1) at 6A No. 8 EL DORADO (2-0): Pine Bluff bounced back last week with a 52-6 win over Watson Chapel. El Dorado defeated Camden Fairview 22-6 last week and has played solid defense through the first two weeks. Pine Bluff has plenty of playmakers, but the Zebras face a strong road challenge against a confident El Dorado team.

 4A Hope (0-2) at NR DEQUEEN (0-1): DeQueen scored 49 points in its Week 0 overtime loss to Mena and is coming off an open date. Hope looks to get its offense established early. DeQueen’s ability to create explosive plays gives the Leopards an opportunity to control the pace.

4A No. 1 STUTTGART (2-0) at NR White Hall (0-2): Stuttgart beat Lonoke in its opener before beating Malvern 44-0 last week. The Ricebirds have outscored their opponents 79-19. White Hall has faced a demanding early schedule and gets another quality opponent this week.

5A WEST

OPEN No. 12 Harrison (1-1)

No. 8 MORRILTON (2-0) at No. 13 Harding Academy (0-2): See notes above.

No. 16 Vilonia (1-1) at No. 15 ALMA (1-1): See notes above. 

7A Rogers (0-2) at No. 2 GREENWOOD (0-2): Greenwood has been tested by 2 quality opponents and came within 2 points at 7A Pulaski Academy last week, losing 35-33. Greenwood has shown it can move the football against top competition and should benefit from playing this game at home. Look for the Bulldogs to continue finding balance offensively.

4A Prairie Grove (0-2) at No. 4 FARMINGTON (2-0): Farmington beat 7A Rogers Heritage 28-0 last week behind quarterback Slade Norwood, who completed 12 of 14 passes for 136 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Cardinals have allowed 7 points in 2 games. Prairie Grove can put points on the board, but Farmington’s defense has been one of its biggest strengths.

6A Siloam Springs (0-1) at NR PEA RIDGE (0-2): Pea Ridge has been competitive in both of its losses; Siloam Springs has had extra preparation time after a loss in Week 0. These neighboring programs know each other well, and establishing the running game should be important for both teams. 

NR DARDANELLE (1-1) at 4A Heber Springs (1-1): Dardanelle put up 55 points in its opener, while Heber Springs is coming off a 50-49 game at Highland. Both offenses have shown big-play ability, so this one could come down to which team can put together stops in the second half. 

NR Clarksville (0-2) at 4A GENTRY (2-0): Gentry has shown an explosive passing attack and opened the year by scoring 47 points against Paris. Clarksville will look to control possession and keep Gentry’s offense idle, but the Pioneers have demonstrated the ability to strike quickly.
