HOOTENS.COM CLASS 6A GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 1 GREENWOOD (9-0, 6-0) at No. 3 Mountain Home (7-2, 5-1)
Top-ranked Greenwood has beaten Mountain Home 9 times since 2020, including playoff wins in 2020 (49-13), 2021 (42-0), 2023 (56-14) and the 2024 semifinals (42-0). A Mountain Home victory could force a three-way tie at the top of the 6A West if Shiloh Christian tops Van Buren.
Mountain Home earns a share of its first conference title since 2006 with a win here. The Bombers put themselves in that position by winning 4 consecutive games since a 55-41 loss at Shiloh Christian Week 5. Mountain Home blitzed Van Buren last week, taking a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and a 35-0 lead to halftime before coasting to a 44-20 victory. The Bombers got 4 first-half touchdown passes from senior quarterback Brantlee Phillips, who completed 7 of 8 passes before halftime for 142 yards. Connor Schulz returned a free kick 86 yards for a TD, and the Bombers defense held the Pointers to 39 total yards in the first half with 3 first downs. Barrett Miller, Carter Adkins (twice), and Bryce Kincade hauled in Phillips’ TD passes.
Greenwood, winners of 35 consecutive games overall, earns the outright 6A West title and the No. 1 playoff seed with a victory. The Bulldogs beat Fort Smith Southside 56-21 a week ago, its 75th consecutive home win. Senior QB Kane Archer, who became the first player in Arkansas state high school history to rack up 100 TD passes and 50 rushing scores, accounted for 6 TDs last week. Archer completed 24 of 28 passes for 313 yards and 5 scores, adding 129 yards on the ground with another TD. Champ Davis (6-78 receiving, 2 TDs) and Cooper Bland (8-135, 1) led the receivers.
Mountain Home is 9-1 over the past 2 seasons at home, so this might be closer for longer than your average Greenwood game, but the Bulldogs are operating at an extremely high level right now and should win.
6A EAST
No. 7 Marion (6-3, 4-2) at No. 5 BENTON (7-2, 5-1): The all-time series is tied 3-3, but Benton has won the past 3 meetings by a combined 171-46. Marion clinched a playoff spot and no worse than the No. 5 postseason seed with last week’s 48-10 victory over Little Rock Catholic. The Patriots scored the game’s final 28 points after taking a 20-10 halftime lead. Marion QB Zayden Walker threw 2 TD passes to Aamoni Wren (60 and 37 yards), got a 53-yard punt return score from Kajeris Hill, and a combined 3 TD runs from tailbacks Rico Ward and Jeremiah Dent. Colton Kimbell and Kejeris Hill intercepted passes for the Patriots. Benton clinches at least a share of its third consecutive 6A East crown, and fourth conference title in 5 years, with a victory. The Panthers can nab the No. 1 playoff seed with a win here and a Sylvan Hills loss at LR Catholic. Benton topped West Memphis a week ago behind Drew Davis‘ 225 yards passing and 5 touchdowns. Will Carter caught 8 passes for 127 yards and 3 scores; Brenden Murdock added 105 yards on the ground with a TD. Marion has looked more like the team that played so well earlier in the season the past 2 weeks, but Benton will be all business this week with a share of the conference crown and a first-round playoff bye on the line.
No. 4 SYLVAN HILLS (8-1, 5-1) at LR Catholic (2-7, 1-5): Little Rock Catholic has beaten Sylvan Hills the past 3 seasons, including 21-6 last season. LR Catholic will miss the playoffs this season for the first time since 2017. The Rockets battled Marion into the third period last week, trailing 13-7 in the second period after Luke Burdine‘s 32-yard TD run, and a Linkoln Perez field goal, but the Rockets did not score after halftime, while committing 2 turnovers. LR Catholic should return junior QBs Philips Blair and Hunter Markham in 2026. Sylvan Hills closes in on its first conference title since 2020, and the No. 1 playoff seed, with a victory this week as the Bears own the head-to-head tiebreaker against Benton. The Bears rolled up 670 yards (398 passing and 272 rushing) in last week’s 84-48 victory over Sheridan. Senior QB Tyler Hampton completed 25 of 45 passes for 398 yards and 5 TDs, while Isaiah Howell rushed 9 times for 137 yards and 3 scores. Sylvan Hills should complete a remarkable turnaround after going winless last fall.
No. 6 EL DORADO (6-3, 4-2) at Sheridan (3-6, 2-4): El Dorado has won the past 5 games against Sheridan since the Yellowjackets beat the Wildcats 41-26 in 2019. Sheridan clinched a second consecutive playoff berth last week by virtue of Little Rock Catholic’s loss. A Yellowjackets loss and a Catholic victory would force a tie, but Sheridan owns the tiebreaker against the Rockets. Sheridan battled league-leading Sylvan Hills last week, taking an early 12-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Bears rallied for a 42-26 halftime advantage. Sheridan got a TD toss from Easton Barksdale to Dylan Smith and a 31-yard scoring run from Zay Stephens in the first quarter. El Dorado remains alive for a share of the conference title and a first-round playoff bye with a victory and losses by Benton and Sylvan Hills. The Wildcats will host a first-round playoff game regardless of the outcome, likely finishing as the No. 3 playoff seed. The Wildcats beat Jonesboro 44-21 a week ago behind Cannon Jacobs, who completed 17 of 21 passes for 215 yards and 3 TDs, and the senior QB added 104 rushing yards. Tailback Jeremy Samuels ran 21 times for 107 yards, while Jackson Pagan caught 7 passes for 92 yards. Justin Hammett (2) and Austin Fudge hauled in Jacobs’s TD tosses. Sheridan gets off to fast starts, and this week might be no different, but El Dorado’s offense continues to balance out, and that helps the Wildcats to victory this week.
Memphis (0-9, 0-6) at No. 8 JONESBORO (4-5, 3-3): Jonesboro has beaten West Memphis in 4 of the teams’ past 5 meetings, including 42-20 last season to clinch a playoff berth. West Memphis needs a victory to avoid its first winless season since at least 1957, and perhaps the first in school history. The Blue Devils got a TD toss from emerging sophomore QB Andrew Clay to Joshua Ward last week before falling to Benton 49-19. West Memphis expects to return its leading passer (Clay), second and third-leading rushers (Clay and Tylan Young), and second-leading receiver B.J. Davis, as well as its top tacklers (Carelle Miller and Demont Sturghill) in 2026. Jonesboro needs a win and a Marion loss at Benton to host a playoff game after it lost last week, 44-21 at El Dorado. The game was tied at 7-7 after a quarter, but a 23-point second period gave El Dorado a 30-14 lead at halftime. Jonesboro senior QB Asa Myers completed 18 of 29 passes for 198 yards and a TD, while T.J. Brown rushed for 156 yards and a score; K’Den Hawkins added 20 yards and another score. Kameron Davis hauled in 9 passes for 137 yards and a TD to lead the Hurricane receivers. West Memphis would love to play spoiler, and the Blue Devils seem to keep playing hard, but Jonesboro needs a win here to have any chance to host a playoff game and will approach it as such.
6A WEST
No. 1 GREENWOOD (9-0; 6-0) at No. 3 Mountain Home (8-1, 5-1): See Hootens.com Class 6A Game of the Week.
No. 9 Van Buren (5-4, 4-2) at No. 2 SHILOH CHRISTIAN (7-2, 5-1): Shiloh Christian beat Van Buren 36-7 a season ago. Van Buren earns the No. 3 playoff seed with a win here, and the Pointers would host Sheridan in the opening round of the state playoffs. The Pointers would finish as the No. 4 playoff seed with a loss. The Pointers rushed for 44 yards (1.3 yards per rush) in last week’s 44-20 loss to Mountain Home. Van Buren QB Hayden Williford completed 14 of 21 passes for 177 yards and a TD toss to Toray Wilford (3-78 receiving) against Mountain Home. Hayden Christenberry ran for 90 yards and a TD. Antwon Cooper and Jalen Brown recorded 9 tackles apiece to lead the defense.
Shiloh Christian clinches the No. 2 playoff seed and a first-round playoff bye with a victory here, and the Saints could earn a share of the league title with a win and a Mountain Home win over Greenwood. The Saints topped Lake Hamilton 63-12 a week ago, leading 21-0 after a quarter, 49-12 at halftime, and 56-12 after 3 quarters. Cole Creighton tossed 8 TD passes at Lake Hamilton, 3 of them going to Zane Sluyter; Charlie Kroell caught 2 TD passes. Shiloh Christian is clicking on offense right now and will be tough to derail at the Field of Champions.
LAKE HAMILTON (2-7, 1-5) at Russellville (0-8, 0-6): A Russellville victory could force a 3-way tie for the No. 6 playoff seed, provided Siloam Springs loses to FS Southside. Russellville managed 148 yards in last week’s 21-6 loss to Siloam Springs. Julius Thompson completed 7 of 14 passes at Siloam Springs for 58 yards, and Jayden Foster sparked the running game with 37 yards on 3 carries. Russellville yielded 258 rushing yards to the Panthers. Lake Hamilton gained 256 yards in last week’s 63-12 loss to Shiloh Christian. Jace Bohannan completed 4 of 11 passes for 70 yards, while Hudson Davenport hit 1 of 2 passes for 8 yards. Lake Hamilton rushed for 179 rushing yards, led by J.J. Johnson‘s 119 yards with a TD, and Asher Lyons added a short TD run. The Wolves are in a win-and-in situation here, and we expect Lake Hamilton to take advantage of it.
Siloam Springs (3-6, 1-5) at No. 10 FS SOUTHSIDE (5-4, 2-4): Fort Smith Southside beat Siloam Springs 42-21 last fall, but Siloam Springs ended a 35-game conference losing streak last week with a 21-6 victory over Russellville and has an outside chance in the playoff race with a win here. The Panthers led 7-6 at halftime last week before outscoring the Cyclones 14-0 in the second half. Siloam Springs QB Boaz Benton completed 5 of 10 passes for 43 yards; Mason Short rushed 28 times for 182 yards with a TD. Ryan Estacio added 55 yards and 2 TDs. Jack O’Brien (3-14) and Stewart Schwaninger (2-23) were the leading receivers. Siloam Springs outgained Russellville 301-148. FS Southside appears locked into the playoffs as the No. 5 playoff seed. The Mavericks lost 56-21 a week ago at Greenwood, but Wilson Key caught 8 passes for 85 yards and 2 TDs, and he tossed a 3-yard TD pass to Blake Forsgren. Forsgren completed 19 of 31 passes for 239 yards and 2 scores, and Peyton Zimmerman caught 9 passes for 130 yards. Siloam Springs would love to end 2025 on a winning streak and a playoff chance, but the Mavericks have too much this week at home.
