HOOTENS.COM CLASS 6A GAME OF THE WEEK
East-2 Benton (10-2) at WEST-1 GREENWOOD (11-0)
The teams last met in the 2022 state semifinals, when Greenwood beat Benton 31-24 at Greenwood’s Smith-Robinson Stadium, where Benton has never won and Greenwood has won 76 consecutive home games, dating back to 2014.
Benton topped Mountain Home 63-49 to reach the semifinals for the fourth consecutive season and for the sixth time in 8 seasons. The Panthers rolled up 608 yards, and senior quarterback Drew Davis accounted for 9 touchdowns. Davis completed 32 of 43 passes for 387 yards and 6 TDs, and he rushed for 127 yards and 3 more scores. Davis, a 2-time all-state honoree coming into 2025, is Benton’s all-time leading passer in yardage and touchdowns, completing 68 percent of his passes for 8,989 yards and 117 TDs with 20 interceptions. Davis has rushed for 951 yards and 22 scores. Davis’ top targets against Mountain Home were Kason Collatt (10-114, 3 TDs), John Curtis Barger (6-97, TD) and Will Carter (3-82 receiving, TD). Benton led Mountain Home 28-7 in the second period, but  the Bombers rallied to tie the game at 42-42 in the third period before the Panthers scored 14 unanswered points to take the lead for good.

“We have a tremendous challenge with Benton,” Greenwood Coach Chris Young says. “They are really good offensively. I think their QB and Kane (Archer) are the best QBs in the state.”
Greenwood beat Jonesboro 59-21 in the quarterfinals to make the semifinals for the 11th consecutive season. Greenwood led 31-14 at halftime after the first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie. The Bulldogs rolled up 558 yards, led by senior QB and Utah commit Kane Archer, who accounted for 6 touchdowns. Archer completed 21 of 26 passes for 305 yards and 2 TDs, and added 14 rushes for 152 yards and 4 scores. Archer, a 2-time all-state honoree and 2-time state final MVP, has completed 75 percent of his passes in his 4-year varsity career for 9,947 yards and 125 TDs with 12 interceptions. Archer has rushed 319 times for 2,605 yards and 54 scores. Senior Champ Davis (10-158 receiving, 2 TDs) and Braxton Canada (4-59 receiving) were the leading receivers against Jonesboro. Bryer Hackler (16 tackles, including 2 sacks), Jin Sayadeth (13 tackles, 1 sack) and Drew Dickinson (12 tackles) led the defense.“Greenwood is really good, very explosive on offense, and defense is tough as always,” Benton Coach Brad Harris says. “They have the X-factor playing at their place.”
Benton is as healthy as it’s been in 2025, and it has shown during its 6-game winning streak, but Greenwood has won 76 consecutive at home, and eyes a third consecutive state championship for the third time since 2005.

THE OTHER SEMIFINAL
WEST-2 SHILOH CHRISTIAN (9-2) at East-1 Sylvan Hills (10-1): Sylvan Hills erased deficits of 12-0 in the second quarter, 18-7 just before halftime, 25-14 early in the third period, and 25-20 to start the fourth quarter to rally for a 34-32 home victory last week over Marion. That win avenged Sylvan Hills’ only loss of the season to date and allowed the Bears to reach the semifinal for the first time since 2020. Sylvan Hills QB Tyler Hampton accounted for 4 touchdowns, including 3 TD tosses to Tyler Blakely; Isaiah Howell and E.J. Duckery also scored. Hampton hit Blakley for 2 TDs in the fourth quarter to give the Bears their first lead at 28-25. The second TD pass gave Sylvan Hills a 34-25 advantage. Tari Ransom intercepted a pass for a Sylvan Hills defense that surrendered 452 yards and 7 sacks.
Shiloh Christian advanced to its eighth consecutive semifinal by building a 17-point lead against El Dorado and holding off the Wildcats 24-21. The Saints led 24-7 with 7:06 left in regulation following a Max Eldridge touchdown. Shiloh Christian QB Cole Creighton completed 21 of 28 passes against El Dorado for 316 yards and a TD, but the Saints were limited to 71 rushing yards by El Dorado. Creighton and Eldridge scored rushing TDs. Zane Sluyter (10-152 receiving) and Chandler Kempt (4-88, TD) were the top pass-catchers. Silas Nantze, Eldridge, and Tate Barnard led the Saints on defense.
“Shiloh Christian is probably one of the more talented and balanced teams we have seen,” Sylvan Hills Coach Mark Kelley says. “They are really versatile schemewise on both sides of the ball.”
Shiloh Christian has won a road semifinal game the past 2 seasons, and the Saints find a way again this week in Sherwood.
