CLASS 6A GAME OF THE WEEK
Russellville (0-2) at SYLVAN HILLS (2-0)
Russellville slipped by Sylvan Hills last season 35-33, denying the Bears on a potential game-tying 2-point conversion late in the fourth quarter.
Sylvan Hills snapped a 20-game losing streak in Week 0, and the Bears are 2-0 for the first time since 2016 after victories over Class 5A Maumelle and Vilonia. The Bears led Vilonia 19-0 after one quarter and 40-0 at halftime. Sylvan Hills’ Isaiah Howell rushed for more than 100 yards, including a 78-yard TD rush, and played well all around. Jackson Walker led the Bears in receptions, while all-state performer Malachi Summons and Kam Johnson played well for the Bear defensive line. QB Tyler Hampton accounted for 4 total TDs, and Jeremiah Carey scored twice.
Russellville fell behind Class 5A Greenbrier last week 41-0 in the third quarter before losing 41-5. Greenbrier outgained Russellville 362-140, and the Cyclones lost 2 fumbles. Marcellus Olson-Patterson and Jeremyah Ross-Thompson completed all 3 of their passes combined, and Russellville rushed for almost 140 yards, led by Ladarreus Prince’s 74 yards on 14 tries. The Cyclones were 1 for 7 on third down, while Greenbrier converted 6 of 8.
“The biggest key this week is for us to stop the run,” first-year Sylvan Hills Coach Mark Kelley says. “We have to be able to protect the QB against pressure from Russellville.”
This is a rare all-Class 6A nonconference matchup, and while playoff positioning is not on the line this week, getting a leg up against a potential postseason opponent is key. Sylvan Hills continues its rejuvenation this week with big plays on offense.

6A EAST
Class 7A CONWAY (1-1) at Marion (2-0): Conway beat Marion last September 49-7 in the first meeting between the schools.
Marion has outscored Class 5A foes Wynne and Harding Academy by a combined 111-34 in the first 2 weeks. The Patriots scored the game’s first 44 points last week vs. Harding Academy en route to a 51-7 halftime lead, which was the final score. Marion outgained Harding 313-161 and won the turnover battle 4-1. Patriots QB Zayden Walker completed a 90-yard TD pass to Aamoni Wren, and a 30-yarder to Solomon Flores, while Walker, Jeremiah “Jet” Dent, Kam Riley and Rico Ward added rushing scores. The Patriots racked up 8 tackles for loss, led by Makhi Guyton (3) and Zimran Phelix (2).
Marion has looked like one of the state’s more improved teams through 2 weeks so far this fall, but Conway has too much depth up and down the roster for the Patriots to stay hot this week.
BENTON (0-1) at North LR (0-2): Benton, which opened its season with a 40-10 loss to Class 7A Bryant 2 weeks ago in the Salt Bowl, topped North Little Rock 42-13 in 2024. Benton scored first against Bryant, taking a 3-0 lead on a 47-yard field goal from Gabe Wilbur, but the Hornets scored the final 19 points of the first half to lead 19-3. Bryant outgained Benton 430-198 and recorded 22 first downs to 11 for Benton. Chase Cobb hit Jake Cloud for a 10-yard TD toss for the only points in the fourth quarter.
Benton, which is battling injuries, is likely to play this week without its top 3 receivers, as well as left guard Eli Cunningham. The Panthers will use some defensive backs at receiver.
“North Little Rock looks good on defense,” Benton Coach Brad Harris says. “That could cause us more problems, having those guys out.”
Benton struggled at times against Bryant in the season-opener, but the Panthers still expect to be in the mix this year, and it starts this week with a nonconference road win.
Sheridan (1-1) at Class 7A ROGERS (2-0): Rogers stopped Sheridan 43-7 last fall.
Sheridan lost last week to Hot Springs Lakeside 42-14, but it was 14-6 at halftime and 14-12 in the third quarter after a Dax McMellon-Dylan Smith TD connection. McMellon ran for a 1-yard TD in the first quarter to make it 7-6. Lakeside led 21-12 to open the fourth quarter.
Rogers has outscored opponents by a combined 88-9 so far in 2025, and the Mounties continue that trend this week at home.
EL DORADO (1-1) at Class 5A Arkansas High Texarkana (0-2): El Dorado topped Texarkana 42-20 in 2024.
El Dorado beat Class 5A Camden-Fairview for the fourth year in a row, winning 43-27 while limiting the Cardinals to 72 yards rushing. The Wildcats rolled up 385 total yards against Fairview, including 241 rushing. QB Cannon Jacobs (39 yards rushing, 129 passing) accounted for 6 TDs — rushing for 5 and connecting with Paxton Strong (4-62 receiving) through the air. Jeremy Samuel rushed for 112 yards, while Christian Williams added 56. All-conference linebacker Jakori Lumsey had 12 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, an interception, and a sack. Jaquavion Hampton and Jervalen Junior each had 6 tackles.
El Dorado’s winning formula combines a strong rushing attack with fierce great defense, and the Wildcats will be able to do the same this week in Miller County.
DeSoto Central (Miss.) at JONESBORO (2-0): DeSoto Central beat Jonesboro 27-17 last September.
Jonesboro gave Class 5A power Joe T. Robinson all it wanted last week in a 34-33 road defeat. The Golden Hurricane took the lead 4 times, including a 33-27 lead in the fourth quarter. The Senators were able to score late and run out the clock. Jonesboro all-conference QB Asa Myers completed 17 of 33 passes for 264 yards and a TD, while T.J. Brown rushed for 67 yards and 2 scores. Six Jonesboro receivers caught multiple passes, led by Jamarious Jackson’s 2 receptions for 78 yards, O’Jay Cullins’ 3 catches for 51 yards and a score, and Kameron Davis’ 4 receptions for 65 yards. Jonesboro outgained Robinson 415-373.
Opposing coaches say Jonesboro is improved in most facets this season, and the Hurricane get a win this week at home in the school’s final nonconference game.
Russellville at SYLVAN HILLS: See Hootens.com Game of the Week.
West Memphis (0-1) at Class 5A VALLEY VIEW (1-1): Valley View beat West Memphis 35-6 last season, the first meeting of these schools.
West Memphis trailed Class 5A Hot Springs 21-14 at halftime 2 weeks ago before falling 57-20. The Blue Devils surrendered almost 450 yards, but got good play from sophomore QB Andrew Clay and defensive lineman Kobe Birdo.
“We spent the bye week working on us,” West Memphis Coach Vincent Newton says. “We have a sophomore defensive end who’s out for a while, but everybody else is ready to go.”
A competitive game is expected, but the Blazers defense will make it tough on the Blue Devils.

GREENWOOD (2-0) at Class 7A Springdale Har-Ber (1-1): Greenwood beat Har-Ber 56-19 last fall en route to its second consecutive Class 6A state title.
Top-ranked Greenwood led Class 7A Fort Smith Northside 27-14 last week at halftime before scoring on five consecutive possessions to pull away for a 61-14 victory. Senior QB Kane Archer accounted for 7 TDs. Archer completed 21 of 31 passes for 278 yards and 2 TDs; he rushed 7 times for 68 yards and 5 scores. Braxton Canada caught 10 passes for 110 yards and a TD, and he also produced big plays in the return game. Bulldogs defensive back Blaze McDaniel intercepted a pass late in the first half to preserve the 13-point halftime lead. Greenwood attempts to navigate the remainder of its schedule without 3 seniors, who will miss the rest of the season because of knee injuries.
Greenwood made a big leap from its opener to last week, and it’s not unreasonable to expect the Bulldogs to do so again this week heading into the bye week.
LINCOLN CHRISTIAN (Okla.) 2-0 at Shiloh Christian (1-0): Lincoln Christian stopped Shiloh Christian 38-14 last September.
Shiloh Christian opened its season last week with a 44-13 victory over Class 7A Little Rock Christian, led by QB Cole Creighton’s 412 yards passing with 3 TDs. The Saints led 23-3 after the first quarter and 23-10 at halftime. Shiloh Christian outgained LR Christian 599-429, and the Saints forced 3 turnovers, and stopped LR Christian 3 times on downs to push the hosts to victory.
“We have struggled to score points on them (Lincoln Christian) the last couple of years,” Shiloh Christian Coach Tucker Barnard says. “We need to establish the run game. They’re really explosive on offense; we have to limit big plays.”
Shiloh Christian is a contender in Class 6A this fall, but Lincoln Christian is one of the top programs in Oklahoma, outsourcing its first 2 opponents 98-6, and could find success on Friday night.
Class 4A Arkadelphia (2-0) at LAKE HAMILTON (1-1): Lake Hamilton topped Arkadelphia 49-35 last season.
Lake Hamilton led Class 7A Little Rock Southwest 14-0 after the first quarter, 20-0 at halftime, and 42-0 after 3 quarters in last week’s 42-0 victory. The Wolves rolled up 269 total yards, led by Hudson Davenport’s 124 yards passing with 2 TDs, while 8 players combined to rush 19 times for 145 yards. Coy Autrey, Jace Bohannon, and Braxton Schmidt rushed for TDs. Carson Jackson caught 6 passes for 153 yards and 2 TDs. Blaine Sears led the Lake Hamilton defense with 13 tackles, including 5 for losses.
“Arkadelphia’s kicking game is unbelievable,” Lake Hamilton Coach Tommy Gilleran says. “Their quarterback has a strong arm, and the defense flies around.”
Class 4A Arkadelphia has won 2 games against Class 5A teams, but the Badgers’ luck runs out this week on the road.
FS SOUTHSIDE (1-0) at Class 7A LR Central (1-0): Fort Smith Southside beat Little Rock Central 41-28 last fall.
Southside opened its 2025 season 2 weeks ago with a third consecutive victory over crosstown rival Fort Smith Northside 27-7. Southside rushed for 552 yards on 69 attempts (8 yards per carry) and 6 TDs against Northside, led by 125 yards and a TD from freshman Terrell Warren, while Malachi Warren, who played in 2024 at Northside, ran 4 times for 77 yards and 2 scores. Layden Rowe (11 tackles against Northside) and Ethan Dunn (9 stops) led the Mavericks defense, which forced 3 turnovers and 7 punts, and did not allow a point until the fourth quarter. Southside’s deep stable of RB and 4 starters returning up front (Hayden Ecklehoff, Nick Arnola, Josh Chung, and Marc Rodriguez) give the Mavericks a chance to move the ball and stay in games this season, and that’s a winning recipe this week in Little Rock.
Van Buren (1-1) at Class 5A GREENBRIER (2-0): Greenbrier beat Van Buren 38-20 last fall.
Van Buren yielded 520 rushing yards, including 3 100-yard rushers, in last week’s 52-41 loss at Class 7A Springdale. The Pointers erased a 21-10 first-half deficit to lead 24-21 at halftime, but fell behind 52-35 late in the fourth quarter. Two Van Buren QBs (Hayden Williford and Tristan Ray) combined to complete 25 of 35 passes for 433 yards and 5 TDs, but the Pointers were held to 30 yards rushing on 23 attempts. Senior receiver Austin Riggs snagged 10 passes for 263 yards and 3 TDs. Jaxson Silvers (10 tackles), Jace Cooper (9 stops), and Antwon Cooper (9 tackles) led the Pointers’ defense.
Van Buren looks like a playoff contender, but Greenbrier has proven it is not afraid of playing up in the nonconference, and the Panthers prove it again here.
Russellville (0-2) at SYLVAN HILLS (2-0): See Hootens.com Game of the Week.
Class 5A Pea Ridge (0-2) at SILOAM SPRINGS (1-1): Siloam Springs beat Pea Ridge 21-14 last September.
The Siloam Springs Panthers officially picked up their first win of 2025 early last week when the Arkansas Activities Association ruled that the Week 0 contest against Heritage was an official contest that Siloam won 21-0. Siloam Springs lost 29-22 at Class 5A Alma last week. The Panthers trailed 23-15 at halftime and 29-15 into the fourth quarter. Siloam Springs got a 2-yard TD run from Mason Short to get within 29-22 before Alma’s Samuel Schlegel ended the final Panthers drive with an interception.
Siloam Springs’s improved passing game gives the Panthers a lift this week to get the team to 2-1.
