HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK

No. 8 PULASKI ACADEMY (1-3, 1-0) at LR Central (2-2, 0-1) Coach Anthony Lukas’ Pulaski Academy team bounced back in a big way against North Little Rock last Thursday night after starting the season 0-3. The defense took the air out of the Charging Wildcats late with 2 huge stops. PA played a challenging nonconference schedule that included 2 powerful out-of-state opponents. A win for Central would breathe life back into the program and possibly set the Tigers up to compete for a winning record and a playoff berth. They already have a win over No. 10 Springdale in Week 0. PA looks to make a statement here after trailing during the first half last week at North Little Rock. Sophomore QB Aaron Orgil led the Bruins to victory with multiple second-half TDs. PA comes in with a chip on its shoulder, ready to prove it’s still a title contender.

WEEK 5 PREDICTIONS  (favored team in ALL CAPS and highlighted)

7A CENTRAL

No. 7 Little Rock Christian (3-1, 1-0) at No. 1 BRYANT (4-0, 1-0): LR Christian has nice wins over Cabot, West Memphis, and El Dorado, and Coach Dustin Grimmitt’s squad plays hard every week. QB Kemp Keller has played at a high level, and the offense averages 39.0 points per game. But Bryant looks maybe better than ever. They steamrolled LR Central last week for their 17th consecutive win. Coach Quad Sanders did point out that he wants to improve in the penalty department.

No. 5 CONWAY (3-1, 1-0) at North Little Rock (1-3, 0-1): Coach Buck James’ Conway team has lost only to No. 2 Bentonville, and it opened 7A Central play with a 57-21 win over LR Southwest. The offense looked sharp against the Gryphons. The Charging Wildcats look much improved under first-year coach Brad Bolding. They led PA 17-16 last week at halftime, and are looking to string together 4 quarters.

Southwest LR (0-4, 1-0) at CABOT (0-4, 0-1): Southwest put up 21 points in last week’s game at Conway, its highest total this fall. Cabot showed again that it can make big plays on offense. Cooper Powell, Aeneas Arnold, and Maddox McCrory lead the way.

7A WEST

Fort Smith Northside (0-4, 0-1) at No. 2 BENTONVILLE (4-0, 1-0): Bentonville opened conference play with a 38-7 win over Har Ber. Cole Slepcki threw 5 TDs, 3 of those to Conrad Schmitz and Blair Irvin III. Northside yielded more than 300 yards to Rogers in the first half of a 52-12 loss.

No. 4 ROGERS (4-0, 1-0) at No. 6 Fayetteville (2-2, 0-1): Jeff Regan rushed for more than 100 yards and threw a 70-yard TD pass in one half of action in a 52-12 win over Northside. Fayetteville looks to bounce back after a 34-point loss to Bentonville West. The Purple Dogs need to cut down on turnovers.

No. 3 BENTONVILLE WEST (3-1, 1-0) at No. 10 Springdale (2-2, 1-0): Bentonville West took a huge step forward with its dominant performance over Fayetteville. The Wolverines forced 5 turnovers and made the most of those opportunities. Two of the turnovers were turned into TDs by Quentin Lavalais and Ashton Jones. Springdale opened conference play with a shutout win over Heritage and finds itself back in the Class 7A top 10.

SPRINGDALE HAR-BER (1-3, 0-1) at Rogers Heritage (0-4, 0-1): Brice Owens and Treyson Reith connected for a 69-yard TD last week for Har-Ber. Heritage put up 24 points 2 weeks ago in its 46-24 loss to Central, but the War Eagles have scored a combined 7 points in their other 3 games.
