HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 3 Bentonville West (4-1, 2-0) at No. 4 ROGERS (5-0, 2-0)
It’s early October, but this is a top 5 matchup with home-field playoff seeding (and a first -round bye) potentially on the line. Sophomore VJ Warren caught, ran, and returned his way to 4 TDs and had more than 300 all-purpose yards to lead Bentonville West to a 49-12 victory over Springdale and carries its 2-0 conference record down I-49 to undefeated Rogers. QB Tre Thompson continues to lead an offense (he accounted for 4 TDs, as well) that is averaging 44.2 points per game.
Hunter Dickey blocked an extra point in the seconds, and Rogers won a wild 56-55 contest at Fayetteville last week, the Mounties ‘ first win at Fayetteville in more than 3 decades. Rogers QB Jeff Regan dazzled, passing for 3 TDs. rushing for 2 and accounting for more than 400 yards of total offense. Rogers is averaging 56 points per game.
Both teams have defeated common opponents, Fayetteville and Muskogee (Okla), though Bentonville West defeated Fayetteville more decisively. Defensively, Rogers showed some holes as Fayetteville scored punch for punch. West’s defense yielded 12 points to the Purple Dogs.
PREDICTION: West can get the stops, but the Mounties win a tight one at home.
WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS and highlighted)
7A CENTRAL
No. 1 BRYANT (5-0, 2-0) at No. 8 Pulaski Academy (2-3, 2-0): Bryant’s winning streak reached 18 games last Friday as it pulled away from Little Rock Christian in the second half. TJ Hodges accounted for 193 of Bryant’s 350 rushing yards. Pulaski Academy scored 9 TDs in its win over Central. The Bruins and the Hornets enter Friday’s contest at 2-0 in conference.
PREDICTION: Bryant wins it on the road with lights-out defense.
Cabot (1-4, 1-1) at No. 5 CONWAY (4-1, 2-0): Cabot enters off a shutout win over LR Southwest. The Panthers have steadily improved their offensive output after a Week 0 loss to Fayetteville. Efficient sophomore Ryder Cook has stepped up for the Wampus Cats, leading Conway to a 31-7 victory over NLR last week.
PREDICTION: Cabot plays its best game of 2025 but comes up short on the road.
No. 9 LR Central (2-3, 0-2) at No. 7 LR CHRISTIAN (3-2, 1-1): Kemp Keller led the way again for LR Christian against No. 1 Bryant, but turnovers by the Warriors allowed Bryant to pull away. Central has competed with the heavyweights this fall, and was head to head with Pulaski Academy heading into the fourth quarter last Friday.. Anthony Robinson has the Tigers squad headed in the right direction.
PREDICTION: Christian squeaks by Central.
NORTH LR (1-4, 0-2) at LR Southwest (0-5, 0-2): NLR moved the football last week in its loss to Conway, but struggled to finish drives. Improvements are seen weekly. Robert Jackson and Christian Reaves are playmakers. LR Southwest couldn’t get it going last week against Cabot, and the Gryphons were shut out for the third time in 5 games.
PREDICTION: North Little Rock wins it.
7A WEST
Rogers Heritage (0-5, 0-2) at No. 2 BENTONVILLE (5-0, 2-0): Winless Heritage lost last week’s game 35-3 to Har-Ber, the second time this season the War Eagles were unable to find the end zone. Bentonville started fast in its 34-0 over Northside when Conrad Schmitz returned the opening kickoff for a TD. The Tigers did enough in the first half to allow reserves playing time in the second.
PREDICTION: Bentonville handles Heritage at home.
No. 6 FAYETTEVILLE (2-3, 0-2) at Fort Smith Northside (0-5, 0-2): Fayetteville dropped a heartbreaker to Rogers when it pulled within 1 point in the final seconds but had the extra-point attempt blocked. The Purple Dogs offense matched Rogers punch for punch, with QB Hank Hendrix passing for 464 yards and 5 TDs. Kinyun Johnson accounted for more than 200 receiving yards. Northside continues to struggle offensively and needs to find ways to score.
PREDICTION: Hendrix and Fayetteville air it out and beat the Grizzlies.
Springdale (2-3, 1-1) at No. 10 SPRINGDALE HAR-BER (2-3, 1-1):
Springdale lost last week, but Carson Hayter continues to make plays for Springdale and Wilder Lherisse gets tough yards between the tackles. Har Ber beat Heritage 35-3, and the Wildcats look to even their overall record and win their second conference game.
PREDICTION: Har-Ber gets payback for last year’s 42-21 loss.
