Conway 19, Marion 0
MARION — Conway leaned on a bruising ground attack and a swarming defense to shut out Marion 19–0 Friday night in a battle of ranked nonconference opponents.
Senior running back Trey Harris carried 22 times for 155 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown that sealed the win. Kicker Will Upton provided the early cushion, hitting field goals of 19 and 20 yards before adding an extra point. The Wampus Cats also unveiled the “Wild Crow” package, with senior Carter Crow taking direct snaps and pounding in a one-yard score late in the third quarter.
Sophomore quarterback Ryder Cook, making his first career start, kept the Patriots off balance with quick throws to Kambrien Blackmon and Alex McCray, while the Conway offensive line—anchored by Isaiah Bowman and Josh Vinces—controlled the trenches in the second half.
Defensively, Conway suffocated a Marion offense that had scored 111 points in its first two games. Safety Jeremy Gatewood intercepted a first-quarter pass, and linebacker DK Turner added another takeaway in the fourth. Ends Ryan Blackwell and Kajeris Hill created pressure for the Patriots, but Conway’s defense stiffened twice on fourth down deep in its own territory. Marion’s top threats, quarterback Zayden Walker and running back Rico Ward, found only brief success against a disciplined Conway front.
The win sends Conway (2–1) into its bye week with momentum, while Marion (2–1) enters conference play after its first loss.
