Conway 57, Cabot 28: Wampus Cats ride ground game on homecoming
Conway 57, Cabot 28
CONWAY — Conway leaned on its depth at the skill positions and a late surge to pull away from Cabot, 57-28, in Friday’s Centennial Bank Bowl at John McConnell Stadium. Senior backs Trey Harris and Carter Crow powered the Wampus Cats; Harris ripped off chunk gains and scored twice after halftime, while Crow found the end zone three times, including the game’s first points on a 6-yard run. Sophomore quarterback Ryder Cook managed the offense efficiently and hit junior playmaker Kambrien Blackmon for a fourth‑down touchdown in the first quarter.
Cabot answered early behind senior quarterback Maddox McCrory, who tossed three scoring strikes—two to junior receiver Aeneas Arnold (34 and 19 yards) and another to senior Bentley Harrell—to keep the Panthers within a score in the third. Special teams and defense also sparked Cabot: senior Jalyn Hart’s 88‑yard kick return set up a short TD, senior Hudson McDaniel blocked an extra point, and senior linebacker David Liddell recovered a fumble deep in Panther territory. Up front, senior end Joey Bartlett was disruptive.
Conway’s special teams steadied the second quarter as senior kicker Will Upton added a 40‑yard field goal before halftime, pushing the lead to 30‑14, and the Wampus Cats controlled the fourth with Crow’s Wildcat scoring runs to seal it.
It was a showcase for two of 7A Central’s bluebloods and their head coaches—Buck James of Conway and Scott Reedof Cabot—who traded adjustments all night before the Cats’ depth tilted the finish decisively.
