LITTLE ROCK — Sadiq Goji rushed for three first-half touchdowns, and Kelvin Walker and Carmelo Johnson returned interceptions for scores as Parkview defeated Maumelle 62-18 Thursday night at War Memorial Stadium.
The Patriots scored on their first offensive play, built a 49-12 halftime lead and improved to 2-1 in the 5A-Central. Maumelle fell to 0-3 in conference. Parkview held the Hornets to zero net rushing yards in the first half while producing 225 total yards on just 19 offensive plays, according to the broadcast’s halftime statistics.
Goji took the opening handoff around the left side and raced into the end zone for a 7-0 lead with 11:43 remaining in the first quarter. Parkview forced a punt, and Elijah Moody converted fourth-and-three on the Patriots’ next possession. A screen to Goji moved the ball to Maumelle’s 2, and Moody avoided several tackle attempts on a two-yard touchdown run with 6:13 left.
Maumelle answered through the air. Levi Warrior found Jackson Walker for a first down and connected with Isaac Warrior across midfield before hitting Jackson Walker for a 46-yard touchdown on third-and-12. Moody found Carmelo Johnson inside the 10, and Goji scored from seven yards with 7:59 left. Johnson’s two-point run made it 35-6.
Christian Stokes caught a pass inside the 20 on Parkview’s next possession, setting up Moody’s second rushing touchdown. Carmelo Johnson then stepped in front of a pass and returned it for another touchdown, extending the lead to 49-6 with 4:44 left.
The Hornets put together a late scoring drive. Jack Austin and Jackson Walker supplied first-down catches, and a pass-interference penalty kept the possession alive on fourth down. Levi Warrior found Derious Glover for a 19-yard touchdown with three seconds remaining. The two-point pass fell incomplete.
Maumelle opened the second half with a scoring drive under a running clock. Jayden Baker converted fourth down with a run and later carried the ball to Parkview’s 16. Jackson Walker’s catch moved the Hornets to the 11, and Grant Munson caught Levi Warrior’s third touchdown pass. Parkview stopped the two-point run to preserve a 49-18 lead.
The Patriots’ reserves supplied the final two touchdowns. Sophomore Knox Hodges threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Camorian Johnson on fourth down late in the third quarter.
