Greene County Tech 38, Brookland 20

October 9 2026

Davontae Williams rushed for two touchdowns, and Greene County Tech turned defensive stops and Brookland special-teams mistakes into a 38-20 homecoming victory Friday night. The Eagles ended a three-game losing streak, improved to 3-3 and earned their first victory in their new stadium.

Tech overcame an early deficit behind a ground game featuring Williams, Ashton Addison and Brett Boone. Gavin Cupp added a touchdown pass to Zayne Cates, who later intercepted a pass, while Kayden McDermott forced a first-quarter fumble that helped the Eagles seize control.

Brookland struck first after Layton Byler kept its opening possession alive with a fourth-down completion to Caden Rodriguez. A downfield connection with Jackson Fleer put the Bearcats near the goal line, and Byler scored on a 2-yard keeper. The unsuccessful extra point left Brookland ahead 6-0.

Tech answered on its first possession. Addison broke through the middle and then followed his blockers into the red zone, setting up Williams for an untouched touchdown run. The extra point gave the Eagles a 7-6 advantage.

McDermott changed the next possession when he stripped Fleer as the receiver fought for extra yards late in the first quarter. Tech carried that opportunity into the second quarter, eventually going to the air. Cupp stayed in the pocket against pressure and found Cates open between the safeties for a touchdown.

The Eagles added another score just before halftime. After a Brookland punt sequence gave Tech favorable field position, Addison powered downfield, broke through contact and finished the drive with a touchdown run. His score came with 1:05 remaining in the half, and the Eagles took a 21-6 lead into the break.

Tech continued to take advantage of short fields in the third quarter. A high snap on a Brookland punt left the Eagles at the Bearcats’ 5-yard line. Boone needed one carry to score, following the blocking from a heavy formation as Tech stretched its lead to 31-6.

Byler answered with a 1-yard touchdown keeper later in the third quarter. Lane Compton stopped his two-point attempt, preserving a 31-12 Tech lead. The Bearcats found some defensive traction in the fourth quarter, forcing the Eagles’ first punt, but Cates intercepted Byler to halt a promising response.

Williams supplied Tech’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter. He gathered a low snap, worked left and used a stop-and-go move to reach the sideline and the end zone. The Eagles had 38 points with approximately three minutes remaining.

Byler closed Brookland’s scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run and a successful two-point keeper. Cupp then took the final kneel-downs. Tech hosts Nettleton next Friday, while Brookland, now 2-4, hosts Valley View.
