Hopson Scores Five Touchdowns as Nashville Defeats Bismarck

NASHVILLE — Nashville scored on its opening possession and built a 35-6 halftime lead before defeating Bismarck 49-25 Friday at Scrapper Stadium in Nashville.
DJ Jefferson directed an 81-yard opening drive that ended with a tunnel-screen touchdown pass to Jacoby Hopson with 9:12 left in the first quarter. Jakhari Starr made it 14-0 when he broke an 85-yard touchdown run with 2:39 remaining.
Bismarck answered early in the second quarter. Cayden Burch moved the Lions to the goal line, and Clayton Martinez scored from 1 yard. Marquez Jefferson blocked the extra point, leaving Nashville ahead 14-6. Hopson responded with a touchdown run, then DJ Jefferson hit Bryce Perrin for a 46-yard touchdown and Hopson for a 57-yard score. The latter came one play after Jailyn Staggers recovered a Burch fumble. Trendon Northcross added an interception late in the half.
Bismarck opened the third quarter with a short field after recovering a Nashville fumble. Burch scored on a 2-yard keeper to cut the lead to 35-12. Nashville answered with Hopson’s fourth touchdown, a short run, for a 42-12 advantage. Bismarck struck again when Burch hit Linken Jones for an 80-yard touchdown, making it 42-18.
Hopson finished Nashville’s scoring in the fourth quarter with a 22-yard touchdown run, his fifth score. He accounted for three rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns. Bismarck answered when Burch found Parker Hughes for a touchdown and Omar Diaz converted the extra point, producing the final 49-25 margin.
Jefferson threw three touchdown passes. Starr had already surpassed 100 rushing yards in the first quarter, highlighted by his 85-yard touchdown. Burch accounted for three Bismarck touchdowns—two passing and one rushing. Nashville’s defense also produced a fumble recovery, an interception and a blocked PAT. Nashville led 14-0 after the first quarter, 35-6 at halftime and 42-18 after three quarters.
