Jacksonville Holds Off DeWitt 28–20 on Homecoming

DEWITT — Jacksonville leaned on its big-play tailback and a timely red-zone keeper to spoil DeWitt’s homecoming, 28–20, in a nonconference grinder Friday at Dragon Stadium. Sophomore RB/OLB Mason Ball (No. 0) broke free for a 43-yard score in the first quarter and added second-half insurance with a 1-yard plunge as the Titans’ offensive front steadily wore down the Dragons. Senior QB Jaylon Foster later cashed in an 8-yard keeper to cap a short field, and Jacksonville’s defense came up with two drive-ending interceptions to keep DeWitt at arm’s length.

DeWitt struck first when junior QB/DB Xavier Cox zipped a 4-yard touchdown to junior WR/DB Marshaun Bowers. After halftime, junior QB/LB Kaden Pippinger jump-started the Dragons with a well-executed hook-and-ladder—Pippinger to Raedric Frye with a lateral to senior RB/OLB Korri Graham for a 19-yard score. Down two possessions late, Graham powered in from a yard out and tacked on the two-point run to pull DeWitt within eight before Jacksonville’s ground game closed it out.

Both defenses flashed. For Jacksonville, senior LB/TE Tarrence Trotter (No. 15) ranged sideline to sideline, while junior DE/NG Brian Johnson (No. 88) collapsed edges and clogged interior rush lanes. DeWitt countered with sophomore DE/TE Kaiden Golden, who logged multiple backfield stops, and Frye’s perimeter play helped force punts that kept the Dragons alive into the fourth.
