Lakeside 24, Greenbrier 21

GREENBRIER – Greenbrier’s historic unbeaten run ended one step short of the 5A semifinals Friday night, as Lakeside’s Rams edged the Panthers 24–21 in a second‑round thriller. A 37‑yard field goal from senior kicker Romeo Oseguera with 33 seconds left in the third quarter proved to be the difference.

Both offenses came out blazing. Senior quarterback Wally Wolcott steered Lakeside to a 14–7 lead behind a quick-strike passing game, then junior back Peter Ohman powered in short touchdown runs on each of the Rams’ first two drives. Greenbrier answered each time as senior running back Enoch Assan—a Darren McFadden Award finalist—broke loose for more than 148 first‑half rushing yards and two scores, including a 52‑yard burst to help forge a 14–14 tie after one quarter.

The Panthers grabbed halftime momentum when senior quarterback Jack Palmer threaded a 28‑yard touchdown to senior receiver Salter Mahan on 3rd‑and‑20, sending Greenbrier to the locker room up 21–14. Palmer finished with an efficient night through the air, repeatedly finding Mahan, junior wideout Trendon Moseley and junior receiver Kaeden Cummings to move the chains.

Lakeside, however, controlled the second half. Ohman punched in his third rushing touchdown from a yard out to tie it, and the Rams’ veteran front—led by linebacker Cannon Martin and safety Chris Ford—held a Greenbrier offense that averaged 48 points per game to a season‑low 21. Wolcott’s poise on third down and Oseguera’s clutch leg sent Lakeside (9–3) on to a semifinal rematch with Parkview, while Greenbrier closed a standout season at 11–1.
