Hamburg 63, Star City 14

HAMBURG — Hamburg scored five first-quarter touchdowns and never looked back, racing past Star City 63–14 on Friday in a 4A-8 matchup at Campbell Field. Junior RB Ni’kel Lewis set the early tone, bursting for scoring runs of 54, 16 and 8 yards on his way to four first-half touchdowns for the Lions.

Quarterback Kaeden Thomas directed a balanced attack, tossing three touchdown passes—two to WR Ke’Ovion Brownand another to WR Colt Tubbs—as Hamburg built a 63–0 halftime lead. Special teams and defense joined in: returner Charles Mooney sprinted 70 yards with a punt, and Aiden Robinson scooped a fumble and raced 53 yards for a defensive score. K Alberto Aguilar was perfect on nine PATs and also tried a long field goal after intermission.

Star City answered in the fourth quarter. Justin Holloway—a WR pressed into QB duty—dropped an 18-yard strike to Kynan Griffith to get the Bulldogs on the board, and freshman Jon Pettit pounced on a loose ball in the end zone for a late score. Sophomore RB Jamarian Spencer churned out tough yards, and the Bulldogs’ young secondary battled through extended snaps against Hamburg’s speed.

Both teams played clean, physical football; Hamburg’s size up front and Lewis’ vision created the separation, while Star City’s underclassmen provided encouraging second-half moments as the program continues to develop depth.
