Barrett Mallett scored on an 85-yard run with 1:13 remaining to secure Valley View’s 30–21 victory over Jonesboro Friday night. The touchdown followed Levi Manning’s fumble recovery with the Blazers protecting a two-point lead. Both teams finished nonconference play 2–1.
Taylor Hyneman broke free for a 58-yard quarterback keeper in the first quarter. On Valley View’s first scoring drive, he converted third-and-five with a 16-yard completion to Justin Saare, then found Mallett for a 30-yard touchdown with 46 seconds left. Trent Dunham kicked the extra point and added a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter for a 10–0 halftime lead.
Jonesboro scored on its opening possession after halftime. CJ Lovelace connected with Cam Davis for a 30-yard touchdown on fourth-and-six, cutting the deficit to 10–7. Hyneman answered with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Manning, who caught the ball near his shoelaces, maintained his balance and reached the end zone. Dunham’s kick made it 17–7 with 3:44 left in the third quarter.
Angel Feliz responded with a 64-yard touchdown run, and Alex Glomski’s extra point pulled Jonesboro within 17–14. Hyneman scored on a 5-yard keeper early in the fourth quarter. The extra-point attempt failed, leaving Valley View ahead 23–14.
Tevin Oliver’s 44-yard touchdown run and Glomski’s kick made it 23–21 with 4:07 remaining. Davis then intercepted a pass and returned it to Valley View’s 14, giving Jonesboro an opportunity to take its first lead.
The Blazers recorded a 4-yard sack on the next play. Manning recovered a fumble later in the possession with 1:29 remaining. After a run for no gain, Mallett took a Wildcat snap and covered 85 yards untouched. Dunham’s extra point established the final margin.
Valley View’s defense finished with another takeaway. Sonny Williams intercepted Jonesboro’s final pass and stepped out of bounds as the game ended.
