Mountain Home 49, West Plains 30
WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Mountain Home made a season-opening statement Friday, rolling to a 49–30 win at West Plains behind the all-around brilliance of senior RB/DB Barrett Miller.
Miller set the tone immediately with a 98-yard kickoff return and finished with five touchdowns, including three rushing scores and a 49-yard reception. He added a back-breaking 50-yard run in the third quarter and capped the night with a short fourth-quarter plunge. Quarterback Brantlee Phillips directed the balanced attack, tossing a touchdown to Carter Adkins and sealing the game with a 78-yard keeper in the final period.
West Plains answered throughout. WR/FS Jacob Moore kept chains moving with clutch receptions, RB/SS Dominic Hale ripped a long scoring grab in the fourth, and RB Jackson Taylor powered in from 14 yards. Senior kicker Reed Cobb drilled a 31-yard field goal and was perfect on three PATs, steadying the Zizzers when momentum threatened to slip.
The Bombers’ defense tightened after halftime, highlighted by an Adkins interception that halted a Zizzer rally. Both squads flashed early-season sharpness—Mountain Home leaning on tempo and veteran blocking, West Plains countering with perimeter speed and special-teams play.
Standouts: Miller (5 TDs), Phillips (78-yard run), Adkins (TD catch, INT)
